So you think Marquette and Cal went after a coach that was trending down? Interesting, generally coaches who take their teams to the sweet 16 are trending up. College players graduate, other players step up and take their place. If you're not at a basketball factory, your best chance is to win it all is to put together a senior dominant squad. Martin had that and took it to the Sweet 16, and was one play away from the Elite 8.

It's kind of hard to forecast what his team would have looked like this year, since you really have no idea what the roster would have looked like, and what sort of improvements the other players on the roster may have made.

That's like saying Pearl was trending down after the elite 8 run because he didn't get beck there. Just because this years team under Zo may not have made the sweet 16 doesn't mean he wasn't trending up as a head coach.

If u allowed CDT to take over Mike Montgomery's team then he would be trending up as well.....we won't know if Zo is improved until he is winning with his own players....he was getting ready to have to do that here and most prognosticators stated how tennessee was having a significant talent drop off.

It's my opinion that he wouldn't have made the tourney period and probably been let go.

That PG is avg about 2 ppg so not sure he would help much and I don't think Stokes was staying regardless of what BTO says. Either way he should have had a back up plan to stokes leaving and he didn't address it. Zo could have stayed and proved us wrong but he chose to leave. It's time to move on and not get caught up in him winning with someone else's players.

Media poll picked Cal 7th in the Pac-12 this year, so it's not like they had crazy talent that everyone saw ahead of time...

He was only here 3 years, how much can you really learn and improve in 3 years? Let me answer that for you, not much. Cuonzo is respected by the coaching community and all medio excluding Knoxville, you hear nothing but positive things about Cuonzo yet we have fans who still act like he was a Buzz Williams or something lol.

I would think he would have learned he needed to hire someone to install an offense for him. There's no excuse for our lack of execution on offense in his third year with a veteran team.

Also it was his 6th year of being a head coach.
