'15 IN LB Darrin Kirkland Jr (UT Commit 12/15/14)

I really like Cherry and how violent he hits. I hope we can hang on to him.... but this guy would probably be best for us. Hes better in pass coverage and pass rush. He seems a little harder to block.

I'm cool with either guy, but it appears Kirkland may allow us a better opportunity to close with some other targets. I wouldn't have even suggested trading him for Cecil. But with the recent developments with Cherry's visit to Texas along with his comments, it's worth discussing.

If it helps us get Richmond, then make the exchange. Newsome would just be icing.

The crazy thing about it is you really cannot tell which player is going to be better. Kirkland could wind up being a bust, as could Cherry. Who would have thought that Cam Sutton would have been more dynamic than Jalen Ramsey? Recruiting is an unpredictable game. That is what makes it so fun. If the rumors are true, I sure hope we don't lose Cherry.

This guy will be a Vol. All he has to do is look at what Our D line is about to be. I'm sure he has already pictured it in his mind.

Sutton has never taken over a game like Ramsey did last night. Ramsey will be a top 15 pick, definite 3 and done. Sutton is the best corner UT has had in years, but lets not go overboard.

A lot harder to take over the game at CB than at FS. They can just not throw to your side as a CB. FS can be moved all over the field, they can play back in pass coverage, or come down in run support or to rush the QB. Not a fair comparison at all imo. They're both great players, not sure why we have to argue over which one is better at their position or how you even go about proving that one way or the other.

What's going on with Cherry?

Leaning hard toward Texas as of several days. A lot of speculation as to why. Regardless, he has even picked up a couple of CB's to them. Kinda was out of the blue after his visit there. Said Texas is his dream school.

"About a month ago, we had been talking for a long time, but about a month and a half ago I reached out to them and let them know about my situation and they were very excited about it but numbers-wise it just wasn't working out," Kirkland Jr. explained. "But, after a couple of weeks went by and they figured some things out they are excited about me and want me to be a Vol."

"Coach Jones has done a great jobs of recruiting me throughout the whole process. The staff is one of my best relationships I've had throughout this process as well," Kirkland said. "I'm just excited to get back down there to Knoxville and enjoy the visit with my family. Right now they are definitely a school that I'm really considering moving forward."

"It's really just coach Jones," Kirkland said on what he really likes about the Vols. "He's been a guy that has been recruiting me since last December when they offered me and he's been a guy that I've built a great relationship with through this whole process along with coach (Tommy) Thigpen, coach (Steve) Strpling and coach (John) Jancek. They've all been very personal with me and my family and they are just great guys to be around.

"I visited twice throughout the process and I loved it both times so I'm just excited to get down there and experience my first football game at Tennessee. I think I'll really enjoy it.
