Mike Hamilton has egg on his face. Remember at the height of the fire Phil fervor, Mike sent out a letter in which he presented the idea that maybe the volnation was suffering from delusions of grandeur with regard to our head football coaching position. Now that Arkansas has managed to snag Petrino from the Falcons and Saban left Miami, am I alone in thinking that Hamilton looks like an idiot for floating that out there. You can accuse me of wearing four-inch thick orange colored glasses, but I just cannot believe that Arkansas is more attractive than Tennessee. I think MH drastically underestimated the appeal of a job like Tennessee.

Hamilton knows Tennessee would have no problem finding a quality replacement. He was simply spreading misinformation to help prop his benefactor up in the eyes of the mindless homers.

Oh, well that explains everything. The ole sandbag the dummies trick.

That crafty Hamilton.

Top 10? Ehhh

Florida
Florida State
Miami
Alabama
Michigan
Ohio State
Texas
Oklahoma
USC
LSU

Then it's either Penn State or Tennessee, I guess. Nebraska, even with the recent crap, is probably better than Tennessee. UT is top 15.

LSU, Penn St., and Nebraska are not better jobs than Tennessee. They're comparable, but not better.

MIAMI ? No, they have to out recruit UF, SFU, FSU, UCF. UT could get a great coach if they put out the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

With the exception of PSU and FSU, no other school has had fewer coaching changes in the last 30 years than Tennessee.

Tennessee is equal to if not better than Michigan and LSU. Nobody wants that Michigan job except an insider. LSU? Outside of Billy Cannon, what did that school do noteworthy between the late 50's and coach Saban? It only became a "good" job recently. This team today still has remnants of Saban's recruits. Well see how good LSU is in the next 2 years.

Miami, definitely not, no fan base, no facilities. Its a sexy name, but at the end of the day, it only has one plus, and I admit its a good one, and thats a great recruiting ground. But other than that, not so much.

Nebraska was comparable, but that ship has sailed and I dont beleive it will ever be what it was. Kids in this day and age want to play in warm weather, not in that frigid wasteland.

If you believe Mandel and Forde, Arkansas did not get much. Time will tell I suppose.
Absolutely agree, left a mess behind at Louisville. Never a big picture guy, just one day at a time, mostly because he is always looking to get onto the next job. And was despised by even the most decent Falcon players. When you have Warrick Dunn mad at you, your really an ass.

The only thing Miami has for it is location (near a ton of south Florida recruits). But heck, they now have to share them with USF and UCF along with FSU and UF.

Nebraska and Oklahoma are pretty much exactly the same. They don't have much trouble recruiting or winning.

Not like the 90's were all that long ago, I remember about 10 straight years when Nebraska was trouncing everyone. Including us twice major bowls in 3 years. And Spurrier by about a million points in a NCG.

Well if our options are stick with Fulmer or get a coach who may up and leave at the "next best thing" I believe I would rather keep Phil

so if you are saying MH put his foot in his mouth you are absolutely correct.... Tennessee is at least a top 10 coach job when you considered all the points above.

How many of those teams are hiring right now or in the foreseeable future?

UF - No unless Meyer jumps to Notre Dame
FSU - Already have their replacement on staff
Oklahoma - No
USC - No
LSU - Probably
Ohio State - No
Alabama - Maybe. Saban usually stays for 5 seasons and jump ship.
Miami - Shannon gets at least 2 more seasons there
Texas - No
Michigan - When they finally find one this year, he'll get at least 3 seasons.

So Tennessee isn't going to be going against any of the big name schools for coaches in the next 3-4 seasons, should they look for a new coach.

Alabama is barely a top 15 job. imo
Those people live in the past.
LSU no way its BETTER than us.
Miami no.

LSU did as much in the '70s and '80s as Tennessee. More in state talent. It's the second best job in the SEC.
