Not to be overly dramatic, but what in the world is going on with recruiting? With Chris Jordan commiting to Bama, that makes 3 of the top 5 players in-state leaving with Saban. We don't exactly have a lot of in-state talent to choose from, and this is a concerning precedent. That leaves us the regional and national base that Fulmer has made a living off of. Only problem is, the big dogs are walking early this year, and almost all of the rivals 100 have commited. As it sits, I'm afraid we will have to scramble to just sign an average class....the 2nd of its kind in 3 years, with a great class in-between. This is not how programs are turned around, how championships are won, or how Florida and Georgia are caught. I know CPF believes last year's class will win a national title, but it won't without help. Frustrating, especially while Meyer and Richt continue to stockpile.....and now Saban is clipping along at a speed unseen in Tuscaloosa in over a decade. Make no mistake: he will turn that program around in record time, and he'll do it the right way. It's only going to get tougher folks, and all I see is a slouching toward mediocrity. :whistling:

i have grown to hate this word, for more than one reason.

it's December. we had the same talk this time last year. i'll worry about recruiting the day after signing day.

With how many top recruiting classes have panned out in years past, I don't see panic being an option. The college game can turn guys that were dogs in high school into stars.

If you are still not convinced, we usually get in the game late and finish strong. I wouldn't count on it this year, but who knows? I just want to pick up talented guys who want to play for Tennessee.

If we don't have receivers, D lineman, and D ends ready to play next year I would skip the panic button and throw the keyboard out of the closest window.

Don't worry, this is a needs filling class, so it's okay that we don't have any marquee recruits or even a few highly rated recruits at our "need" positions.

Hey we've had 2 top 3 classes in the nation in the past 3years and haven't managed to be better than 4th in the SEC. Proof that recruiting rankings don't mean anything right there.

I mean sure fast, strong, talented players may help a little bit to win games, but even without them we can count on out-coaching everyone else.

Tenn always starts out slow, but always seems to finish strong. I just hope we get some help on the D line.

Finish strong is the usual mantra of UTK recruiting. This will be a down year. Definitely much less impressive than last year due to the lack of in-state blue chippers and the lack of highly rated legacies. Right now the class is rated #35 by Rivals and #41 by Scout. I'll be surpised if this class finishes with a higher ranking from the 2 top rating services than the 2006 class. Hopefully, someone on the staff is locking up a bunch of sleepers.

Recruiting rankings are overrated anyway. UT should sign enough studs to win the SEC in the next few years on a regular basis.

Last year was basically good enough for 1 and 1/2 classes. As long as we steal a couple athletes and sign a handful of linemen all will be ok.

Maybe we dont have all the scholarships to give, not losing a ton of ppl this year and had a huge recruiting class last year.

The 98 Seniors' class was only rated no. 17 coming in, and we all know how that turned out.

Well, it looks like a lot of Whistling past the Graveyard in a lot of the responses to my original post. Continue to tell yourselves that "all is well" if you wish. What's new? All I'll say is remember this thread over the next 4-5 years, as 5-3 SEC records become the norm around here. Get used to consistent losing to Florida, UGA, and Bama before Halloween every year. Each have superior coaching, along with soon-to-be superior talent. It is what it is.

It's been said over and over and over again.

Tennessee has never consistently beat UF.

UGA all that great talent that Richt has stockpiled? Tennessee is 3-1 in the last 4 years against them.

Saban will be gone in 3 more seasons.

I'm not comfortable at all. But this nonsense about "UGA is outrecruiting Tennessee" and "Fear Saban" is stupid.

Quit pissing your pants. UGA is 1-3 against Tennessee the last 4 years. :snoring: Tell me why I should worry again? Is it because Knowshon Moreno is so good? Or is it because we play them at Sanford Stadium next year? Oh Tennessee is 2-0 the past 4 seasons there.

Saban is a good coach and a damn good recruiter. Yet they are still 6-6. Let me tell you, those guys in Tuscaloosa are something else. They almost beat ULM.
