How soon will Prince earn a starting position on the team...what will he contribute, and could he be the missing element needed to get this team running like a little red corvette again?

J.P. has the potential 2 start at pg 4 Jordan Howell. He just can play everywhere. Coach Pearl likes the 9 man rotation and says he will prolly take somebody out of it. My nine is c-lo,j.p, JuJuan, tyler, duke, wayne, chill, jordan, ramar. Tabb is a good defender, but its just hard 4 me 2 play him in front of the other guys listed

I would play Tabb before Howell.

No way that Tabb doesn't make the rotation. We need him to be a leader out there defensively..and he can make some baskets as well - don't totally count his offense out. Regardless, I think that the offense of this team will come - but it doesn't matter unless they learn to get out there defensively.

What is going on with him, anyway?
still can't shoot and teams will start taking away the drive until he can. decent passer, but not the assist style of PG either. defensively, only makes the effort about 10% of the time.

I thought that he had a fairly effective short- to mid-range jump shot last year....I've only seen him drive to get fouled this year (or occasionally get the shot off). Maybe I'm just inventing memories from last year.

I say once J.P. gets back we'll have a 10 man rotation..
it will be Ramar and Howell at the point, Lofton and Tabb at the 2, J.P. and JuJuan at the 3, Duke and Tyler at the 4, and Chism and Childress at 5..
whats wrong with that??

i heard on the radio the other day an interview with Pearl. He said that once JP starts playing then one of the other guys is going to get significantly less minutes. He said it came down to: Ramar, Howell, Tabb, and JuJuan Smith. He said no matter what JP is going to be playing in the 9 man rotation and one of those other guys is going to have to basically sit.

JP is not going to start. Why do you guys keep thinking this? It comes up in every basketball thread on this board.

Howell is a better perimeter shooter than Tabb is and seems less selfish. Right now I start Howell over Tabb with him coming in a close 2nd.

Yeah ... let's not annoint J.P. just yet. We're treating him like the backup QB who's never taken a snap. I hope he's great, but I wouldn't be expecting him to come in and take over or anything.

Except in this case JP spent a year and a half at another school and did absolutely nothing (albeit half the time he was there he was very ill).

How does on reconcile this...

Because he was VERY impressive during the RTL. One of the best athletes on the floor. Even though it was a waterdown league, it was easy to tell where the talent was.

Because Pearl has done nothing but rave about Prince in practice.

Because our point play is a weakness on the team so far and Prince can play the point (how well is too be determined).

Because he seems pretty good defensively so we might not miss another great defensive player as much if Prince takes his time.

Because Pearl said that Prince WILL be in a 9 man rotation and several other established players will be the ones fighting for playing time.

Because it's nice to wish for another superstar waiting in the wings to help lead us to a National Title.

Will Prince start? Only time will tell. I've heard that he is a possible NBA prospect in the next couple years. He might just be that good. He could start, stranger things have happened. Who actually thought at the beginning of the season that Howell would be starting?

Getting minutes doesn't equal starting...

That's how you reconcile it.

Got you. The conversation had seemed to turn to whether or not J.P. would make the rotation (or at least it did in my head) .. and the comment by bass seemed to contradict other opinions...but obviously I wasn't reading quite correctly.

I've said this in like every basketball thread that keeps coming up but J.P. Prince is not the savior that yall are looking for. He is not the missing piece. I went to high school with him and watched him play every game. I know him personally. He is a talented player with great athleticism and he may play some but I would be absolutely shocked to see him starting. I also keep saying I hope to be proven wrong but I've seen him play a good amount of games and seen what he can do and he's not the type of player that we're missing right now.

Who cares about the RTSL...

I never said he wouldn't get minutes.

He's going to turn the ball over a lot.

The main reason he will play is his defense and his length, yes.

Once again - I never said he wouldn't get minutes.

Keep wishing.

Lol - NBA prospect. :birgits_giggle:

You actually did say in another thread that a rotation would already be set by the time Prince was eligible and that he wouldn't be in it.

The few times I've seen him he seemed to handle the ball alright, but that not against SEC calibre competition.

Prince will get his chance on the floor. What he does with that chance will determine his role going forward. Simple, just wait and see.
