That can't be right. If a new guy comes on the field, the ref should hold up the offense. I cannot imagine this is legal. If it were, every offense in the country would do it.

Ya, just wait till defense lines up heavy for trips on one side and sneak WR on the other side, snap the ball, he's wide open.

Correct, but I think most competent crews would hold the play up a bit so the defense could at least adjust to where the guy lines up. At least that's what Butch said he felt they should have done.

I think the NCAA has only made a ruling on the first 10 seconds after the play clock starts (40 seconds down to 30) to keep the offense from snapping the ball during this time period and not giving the defense time to adjust. Guess that it would be the same for a 25 second clock(10 second rule). I'm not sure if there is a rule which limits the teams from sending in a player or players as long as the ball hasn't been snapped.
Butch should do the same thing this week at USCe to see if the officials take a stand against it when we do it. If Tennessee does it the SEC and the NCAA will meet and install a new "Tennessee Rule" to make it illegal.

I think this is what CBJ was talking about, substitution also means filling a vacancy. Section 5 - While in the process of substitution or simulated substitution, Team A is prohibited from rushing quickly to the line of scrimmage with the obvious attempt of creating a defensive disadvantage. If the ball is ready for play, the game officials will not permit the ball to be snapped until Team B has placed substitutes in position and replaced players have left the field of play. Team B must react promptly with its substitutes.

Let's try that this week. Bunch formation on our opposite side, walk a receiver on 3 feet and see if he is noticed.

if there's a personnel change, the umpire is supposed to stand over the ball until the defense is allowed to match up personnel wise.

A penalty would be called if the huddle was broken with more than 11

Also when teams run fakes where they have a guy hide on the sideline he has to come inside the numbers before the formation is set

I think Dust is right that sending 11th guy on isn't subbing.

Is getting your 11th guy on late considered a sub?

Meh,
I don't think Leb's a bad guy. I don't agree with a lot of his "opinions", and he has been wrong more than a few times, but I dare say he's probably gotten a couple right along the way.

What I do believe is that he's a true Vol fan. And a passionate one at that.

If you don't like his opinions, or disagree with them, then call them into question (I have).

If all else fails, simply ignore him. But hey, where's the fun in that?

JMO :)

The 11th man coming from the sideline would probably be considered a "simulated substitution" as mentioned in the previous post. I would like to believe that if a personnel change is made it would constitute a substitution but I don't know that much about the rules.

Substitution Procedures
ARTICLE 1. Any number of legal substitutes for either team may enter the game between periods, after a score or try, or during the interval between downs only for the purpose of replacing a player(s) or filling a player vacancy(ies).

Nature of the beast.

Coaches love their name floated for openings.

Win win situation.

More money from current position or more money from school where name is floated.

I wish hospitals had this system. I'd have about ten dream jobs.

Spider 2 Y banana called in the MNF game on 4th and 1. Converted because McCoy hit his primary route, the FB in the flat.

Ive scanned some of the discussion.

I dont read a single thing that Leb posts now. I used to. Just dont care anymore. I just read over it. It seems that everything he posts is a theory. Not that hes a bad poster, Im just tired of opinions and am ready for results.
