Need to "Michigan-Proof" CBJ (Butch Jones and Michigan merged)

Poll: Does UT retain Butch?

Not a recent example, but remember Majors had built a powerhouse at Pitt and won a NC and couldn't resist the urge to come home.

Butch may consider the appearance of not staying anywhere long (3 yrs and CMU and UC, 2 here). He may think he'll have the chance to go to Michigan later. It's hard to say.

But those acting like it wouldn't be a big loss are fooling themselves. It'd be a catastrophe. A great recruiting class would be lost. We'd undoubtedly suffer even more attrition from last year's class and what few upperclassmen we have, which is what happens when you have coaching changes.

We must have stability and great recruiting classes now more than ever if we want to get anywhere. Changing coaches again would be catastrophic.

Leave it to VolNation to worry about our coach leaving after back-to-back top-5 recruiting classes in the most elite league in the country before he even gets to use all of that raw talent simply because "he's from Michigan".

Butch knows he (and Michigan) would be looked at as the most moronic people on the planet. Michigan would have to make him the highest paid coach in the country to pull him away from here. And they'd be throwing all that money at a guy who, as much as I like him, hasn't proven anything in a power 5 conference yet.

As I've said before, a lot of Chicken Littles running around here

I don't know why anyone thinks the "Two college coaching sources said in their opinion there would be strong interest in the position from Jones." is a big deal. So in their opinion he would be interested. Ok. The whole paragraph is basically saying we think he'd be interested because he's from Michigan. That's it. That's all they've got as to why he'd be interested. That tells me they don't have any actually proof he'd be interested.

I'm sure there might be some interest too since that's where he's from. Does that make me a college coaching source?

They're responding to his name being listed second to Mullen in the 247 article. I don't think many are actually worried he 1) would be offered and 2) would take it

Still not sure how they define "dynamic offensive coach". I know it's not just Butch but has the writer of the article seen TN 113th ranked offense?

3) Michigan would actually look at him unless they were turned down by at least six or seven others.

Totally agree. We do have some moronic fans around here.

Wouldn't make sense to me unless they are paying him $7MM+ annually. He'd basically be burning a lot of bridges and starting over. If he failed, he'd have no out, because everyone would remember how he left Tennessee. He'd have to deal with the same problems that RichRod did with not being a "Michigan man." And if he didn't succeed within 3 years, he'd likely get canned.

It would make sense if he were still at Cincy, but I can't see him doing it now that he has spent two years getting this program in a position to be competitive.

Didn't read the article or the 6 pages of comments, but I'm going to say that their AD is high if they don't contact Stoops at Kentucky.

Butch isn't going anywhere any time soon. He knows Tennessee is no stepping stone. Can we get over the battered fan syndrome that Kiffin started any time soon?

Thanks for saying this. I put the article out to give people an idea that it may be a possibility.

If I were Michigan I'd give a serious look at Kyle Whittingham at Utah. He always seems to have them playing good football out there. The man can coach.

Wylo, you sir are a douche. Every posy I've read from you is negative.

If you don't like the direction we are headed cheer for someone else or better yet send in your resume and coach them the way you think is right.

I think he is a 12 year old kid who is really not a Vol fan and likes to come on here just to stir crap.

And you are right if I was as miserable as a few of the posters on here with the direction of the team I would find a new team to cheer for. Life is to short to be as pissed as they get every Saturday.

I think Butch has a job that is not finished yet, I hope I think old LES MILES just might go home this time if the grass is a little more green, he might be tired of the SEC West, at Michigan what 2 games a year, little ohio state and that STATE school. One more thing would Michigan want a coach that would run out on a team that is only half complete, if you think about it he has proven only that he can recruit, he has not proven he can coach, so we are safe for now.

I thought UT should have went after him when they hired Dooley.

I'm kind of surprised a big program hasn't hired him away from Utah yet. I mean just look at how well he always seems to have them playing out there. His current team is 6-1 right now (with wins over USC and UCLA) with their only loss being by 1 to Washington St. I'm happy with Butch here but Whittingham is clearly a very good coach.
