1. I need to refrain from posting after losses until after I've cooled off.
2a. I stand by the message of my last post, just not the way it was delivered. When I'm mad, I cuss enough to make a sailor blush.
2b. Off the field, it's easy to say we're trending upward and help is on the way. On the field, however, I'm not convinced--and Bajakian has about 90% to do with it.
3. There was progress on the offensive side o n Saturday which is due in large part to the addition of Dobbs...which is infuriating because that was apparent last year when he played.
4. Regardless of whether Bama schemed for Dobbs or not, that was the most efficient execution this offense has had all year.
5. A running/mobile QB will typically make the OL look better--but that shouldn't take anything away from their improvement.
6. You can't explain away why Dobbs hasn't been the starter all year. Reports about struggles in practice aside--it's obvious to anyone with eyes that he "brings another element" to the offense--(those are Butch's words, just before he entered the locker room at halftime) that, quite simply, elevates everyone around him.
7. I want the Florida game back.
8. Why was Justin Coleman covering Cooper--at any point during the game?? Cam is a potential future first rounder, he should have been on him all night long.
9. Dobbs has to learn that he can't rifle every pass, he needs to put some touch on the ball--a couple of drops by Wolf and North (best hands on the team) could have changed the game if they weren't launched from a cannon.
10. Damn...Dobbs looked like a skinny version of Tee out there--a credit to him and the nutrition and strength and conditioning staff. If he continues to dedicate himself to the weight room and conditioning program, he's going to completely transform his body by next year.

#8 They moved Cooper around, often in an unAlabama-like uptempo offense, making a matchup with Sutton on every play difficult. Credit Kiffin. They even managed to get Cooper matched up with JRM on multiple occasions

Is it me or does Malone and North have similar playing styles?

Both have same height and weight. If Malone can find the ball and catch it he would be North 2.0. I still say Malone will be a top 10 receiver in his end of the UT career.

I refuse to ask the question, "If Dobbs starts for UGA game do we win?" The reason for that is Worley played very well that game. Therefore, to me, I think it is wrong towards Worley to ask that question. Now, I will question it for the UF game. He played poorly. Very poorly. I believe the outcome would have been dofferent if Dobbs would have played versus UF.

With that said, right after Butch sebt Dobbs into the Bama game I told my buddies "If we start anybody else out at QB while Dobbs is able to play I will lose faith in Butch." Dobbs has to play. No way around it. RS is burnt, he is the future QB. Butch has to start him now.

I think the illegal last second substitutions that Bammer was getting by with may have had a lot to do with the coverage. Butch was on the officials several times about it because we didn't have the opportunity to make our substitution. Saban knew the officials wouldn't call a delay penalty on them (for some reason) so he continued to run receivers in at the last second the entire game.

I'd like to see Butch's record if he could coach games AFTER they happened. :)

In my opinion, Malone is slightly a better route runner and North is stronger with better ball skills. I'd say Malone is a Reggie Wayne type of receiver and North is a Dez Bryant type of receiver.

I think what we have is Butch sidestepping having to name a starter right now to soften the blow for his senior QB. He is publicly being coy about it just to give Worley some time and see what he does. But I would be surprised if anyone other than Josh Dobbs is the starter. You can dissect and criticize any personnel decisions, but I believe Butch knows how to handle people and is a player's coach. He doesn't have to publicly name the starter and can tell his team something different. JMO.

.

3. Really? It seemed to me and many others that if Worley had finished last year, they would have gone bowling. Dobbs did well all things considered, but I didn't get the impression he killed it last year.

6. Actually, his inconsistent passing could easily make him seem a worse option from practice. He missed a wide open slant to North. Another pass to North had him diving to make a two-yard gain. Another ball to North was overthrown and into double coverage. He lost another fumble on a run; he did that last year, too. I'm not dogging Dobbs; he played very well overall. I'm just saying it's not a stretch to believe he was outperformed from a throwing standpoint in practice. Plus, his parents wanted Dobbs to redshirt. If Dobbs wasn't head and shoulders above the other guys in practice, there's no reason not to try to keep the redshirt in my opinion.

7. Yes, please.

8. Bama moves Cooper all over the place. It was reported that trying to chase Cooper with Sutton pre-play would have really messed with the rest of their coverages, and I could see Sutton getting behind trying to run around the defense's formation. I'm not excusing it because clearly they didn't have a good plan to start the game. Also, the substitution thing from the refs didn't help.

One more thing, it was Sutton trailing Cooper on his second touchdown. Did Sutton slip or something? He was way behind. Anybody?

It looked to me like Cooper just got a really good release on his route. Sutton may have slipped but, again, it looked to me like he just really got a lot of separation near the LOS, maybe he faked a slant and got outside.

I agree. There was all kinds of optimism Worley would get it done against Florida.

I agree they should start Dobbs the rest of the way. The only way I could see that differently is if Dobbs had played like crap. He didn't. Play Dobbs.

Cooper faked a slant. Sutton bit and there was no / late safety help. I don't know if he was supposed to have help over the top or not.

I wanted to see it on the replay, but ESPN has this knack of skipping important replays. I'm hoping to see it on the online video post.

That's my read of all this too. Dobbs gives us the best chance to win out and I think CBJ knows that.

True, but if IIRC then Tennessee let's former players come back to school for free anyways. I know auburn does, and I'm sure there's plenty of other SEC schools that do it.

If they leave early, they can come back and finish their bachelors. They don't get to just come back and take classes for new degrees. What I was saying is that Dobbs would save about $40,000 (if he's considered out-state for tuition purposes) in student loans by having a redshirt year on the academic plan that he is most likely undertaking. That's a big chunk of change. It just goes to show this is a complex situation that goes way beyond what most of us have to consider when we sit on our fat a$$es (speaking of my own) and say, "well, Dobbs should have started instead of..."

Not only do we mostly have the luxury of saying this sort of stuff in retrospect, but we also don't have to stake our livelihoods (not to mention millions of dollars) on these sorts of decisions that are very complex, far more so than just who gives you the best chance to win today, next week, 4 years from now, etc.

Thats just off the top of my head. Basically everybody returns will an extra year of experience, plus we add some good talent. Of course, we will lose some of these guys to attrition.

Another reason the family may have wanted a RS for Dobbs.

I went to the Aeronautical Engineer degree program at UT and found that UT offers three basic degrees all of which are Masters. I believe that this is a 5 year course of study. As we know a football scholarship gives you 5 years to play 4.

I am sure we have people on this forum who can confirm if this is a 5 year program.

I thought they did show that one. Even used the telestrator to show Sutton biting.

UTMark is right. I edited my post but he beat me to it...he was beat on a fake slant. There is a (not very good) vine video of it here: Amari Cooper Scores Second Receiving TD Of First Quarter Vs Tennessee (Video)

Thanks guys. I guess I just missed it.

So, Cooper ran wild on Sutton as well. It wasn't just the coaches "being dumb" and not letting Sutton cover (although some of it was). Cooper got open anyway.

That said, ESPN does suck at coverage too often. :)

Malone and North are nothing alike IMO.

North gives 100% on each play and makes an effort on every route and ball thrown his way.

Malone looks to take plays off way too much, reminds me a LOT of Randy Moss in his play style, not ability. The same thing we all saw in the preseason practice videos is showing up a lot in the games too.

wow good find and you might be exactly right. Its still crazy ass hell that he's in that program while playing football.

If Worley or Peterman start against SCjr, my Butch "faith" meter will take a big hit.

Devil's Advocate: If Butch did play Worley and we won, would your faith still take a hit? I mean, wasn't it Worley who lead us to an upset win over USCe last year (and they had a better defense last year)?

Thanks. I agree with the ESPN replay. Our 1st series, Hurd came up inches short of a 1st down and they never showed a replay.

Sutton also got beat by Cooper on one of those 3rd & long crossing routes. Cooper showed that he's the best receiver in the SEC, if not CFB.
