Although I'm not a proponent of our QBs getting hit in practice, I just don't feel his strengths are best seen unless everybody is going full speed and his elusiveness when the play breaks down can be displayed

I would think you could get some of that in certain segments of practice, but a lot of it is dropping back and passing. I could see where the other two could outperform Dobbs on those in practice.

I'll admit, Dobbs was better, overall, than I thought he'd be. He's very calm, he's shiftier than he looks, and he senses pressure pretty darn well. Get that accuracy part down, and we've got something.

I'm sure the o-line appreciates a guy like that as well. It's the first time in a while I haven't seen 500 posts a day about them.

Dobbs' pump fake on one his runs was one of the most badass moves I've seen a UT QB make in years. He juked the hell out of that Bama defender.

It kind of reminded me of the moves my hero Condredge Holloway used to make. Loved watching the "Artful Dodger" as John Ward used to call him.

Worley is still listed as starter on the depth chart released this morning. But I doubt that that is really legitimately meaningful at this point.

Gotta be to make USC prepare for two possibilities with Dobbs or Worley. If Dobbs does not start VN will explode.

@Vol_Football: JONES: The best players who have the best week of performance will play on Saturday.

Geez. More coach speak. All 3 QBs are bracketed as starters on the depth chart

(Paraphrasing)

Jones PC: Going to test Worley today and tomorrow to see if he can be ready to go. He wants competition in practice at the QB position. In no rush to name a starter. Did some schematic things to help the OL with protection. Expect M. Jackson back this week. C Thomas may be ready for South Carolina. Looking for Worley to be able to make all the throws with the right velocity. Even if he's back, that doesn't mean he'll start. Dobbs will continue to get first team reps. Jones all but acknowledges that Dobbs may be a better game player than practice player.

@patrickbrownTFP: Since 2000, the Vols-Carolina game has been decided by average of 8.21 points, the lowest of any "regular" SEC series, per UT's game notes.

So Jones says he wants to see Worley throw to see where he is at for South Carolina. Honestly I have seen all I need to and Dobbs play. Is Dobbs that much better throwing the ball....no. But his ability and willingness to take off proved to be a major difference. There is no way he could actually sit Dobbs and play Worley. I just don't see it. Especially if we were to lose if he did that. People would be ready to have him fired.

Had the same thought. Sure the coaches want a QB to work through the progressions but the ability to improvise when a play breaks down is a significant intangible and Dobbs has it. Its a skill that will win games.

Not sure why you expected different

Not unexpected. I hope though he's not saying it to the team. Both the offense and defense seemed energized with the effort Dobbs brought Saturday. Why not name him the starter (at least to the team) and bring that energy into practice this week? I believe it can only hurt not giving Dobbs the maximum number of reps with the 1s.

More from PC:

Saulsberry will be out this week. Didn't say what the injury is.

Looking for Dobbs to make the routine play all the time.

100 % agreed

1. I need to refrain from posting after losses until after I've cooled off.
2a. I stand by the message of my last post, just not the way it was delivered. When I'm mad, I cuss enough to make a sailor blush.
2b. Off the field, it's easy to say we're trending upward and help is on the way. On the field, however, I'm not convinced--and Bajakian has about 90% to do with it.
3. There was progress on the offensive side o n Saturday which is due in large part to the addition of Dobbs...which is infuriating because that was apparent last year when he played.
4. Regardless of whether Bama schemed for Dobbs or not, that was the most efficient execution this offense has had all year.
5. A running/mobile QB will typically make the OL look better--but that shouldn't take anything away from their improvement.
6. You can't explain away why Dobbs hasn't been the starter all year. Reports about struggles in practice aside--it's obvious to anyone with eyes that he "brings another element" to the offense--(those are Butch's words, just before he entered the locker room at halftime) that, quite simply, elevates everyone around him.
7. I want the Florida game back.
8. Why was Justin Coleman covering Cooper--at any point during the game?? Cam is a potential future first rounder, he should have been on him all night long.
9. Dobbs has to learn that he can't rifle every pass, he needs to put some touch on the ball--a couple of drops by Wolf and North (best hands on the team) could have changed the game if they weren't launched from a cannon.
10. Damn...Dobbs looked like a skinny version of Tee out there--a credit to him and the nutrition and strength and conditioning staff. If he continues to dedicate himself to the weight room and conditioning program, he's going to completely transform his body by next year.

So is Butch saying that if a play can't be executed as designed by the coaches, it should be a bust and nothing else?

Butch takes a subtle shot at the officials saying that he doesn't understand why our tempo was slowed down when we were rolling in the second quarter, and said something about the rulebook being incomprehensible (I think it was his way of saying the rules aren't applied consistently).
