I like our chances too Volatil. Our offense is soooooooooo different with a QB that is a threat to run. We'll get a bowl this year and it may be a better one than we expected.

Of course. The mystifying part is running the same system/plays without a DT QB.

Did I just hear on radio that VOLS had more rushing yards on Bama than anyone all season.?

Pretty sure my post was made PRIOR TO the football game. We lost the game by 14 points, and AL inflicted their will on us. We're not a good football team. Don't kid yourself.

They did in the first half, not the second half. How do you explain that? We were expected to get blown out, crushed, to give up double digit sacks and just suck all together. Didn't happen.

UT held the potent Bama offense to 1 TD in the second half.given the amount of freshman we play, we are better than some of you bagheads think.

Haha Shonn Greene arrested in Franklin because he refused to take a parking ticket for parking in a handicap spot.

We lost by a wide margin? It wasn't that wide. There were a lot of positives to take from it. ***** all you want, I don't care. I am not that kind of person.

"That kind of person". Gotcha. We are a battered fanbase. I get that, but you are grasping at straws. Reality is, our defense got raped tonight and we lost by 2 TDs by a so called "Rival". Tac another one in the L column. It is what it is.

I really believe we have placed our line in some bad spots.

Defenses knew Worley was not keeping the ball. Then get 3rd and long and Worley is looking out his ear hole.

That's true as well. JW and the OL are like oil and water. Just not a good mixture. 30 sacks would be the proof.

I'd like to know who some of you think would do a better job than Butch to this point? Taking into account the lack of depth on both lines and having to face ten top-10 teams in your first 20 games.

Butch vs. top-10 teams: 1-9
Butch vs. non top-10 teams: 8-2

I think a coach that was more willing to work with what he had would have done better to this point.

It may be a moot point after this season though, because Butch should have 90% of the players he will need by 2015.

I don't think anyone is kidding themselves. But, most of us are not so blinded by pessimism that we refuse to see thatthis team is improving as the season goes along. Tonights game was the 10th game in Butch JOnes short career here at Tennessee against a top ten ranked team. That is 10 out of 20.

We have not had the level of success that I want. But, i was keenly aware of the uphill battle that Butch Jones had in front of him when he took this job. He still has work to do and has been very clear about that fact. But, i can see that much work has already been accomplished. We are getting better and i fully expect that we will see better days very soon.

By the way, regarding Bama forcing their will upon us. Your right, they did early. They threw in a couple of new wrinkles early and got up on us. But, when it looked like the game could be a blowout of monumental proportions, the team turned it on and outscored Bama 20 - 7 over the last 40+ minutes of the game.

I know Dooley wouldn't... He was 0-fer against ranked teams. Butch'll get his, but it takes 4-5 years to fully wash a program clean of your predecessor. Most new head coaches don't follow a disaster like Dooley. That guy was epic bad.

If you feel the same hopelessness as last week, you probably don't have the stomach for the long haul...there's no shame in not being a good enough fan. Sit the rest of this one out...we'll let you know when it's safe enough to bandwagon it. :hi:

I don't feel hopeless. But, to sit here and say we haven't been here before is completely ignorant. There is no shame in admitting ignorance. :hi:
Also, in no way was I saying it will turn out the same way because I hope Dobbs gets us to 6 wins. I think he can. I'm just tired of seeing a glimmer of hope and then, poof, doesnt work out. To say that hasn't been UT football for the past few years at least is ignorance at its grandest.

It sucks but what can we do?

I saw hope with Dobbs Finally

So did I. My post was more on the sides of "We have hope and I hope this hope doesn't end up being gashed like all the other times."

In all honesty I have more hope after tonight we get to 6 wins than I did before the game started.

With Dobbs at the helm, 2015 will be our year to make noise. Not championship-level, but we'll crack the top 25, IMO.

No real weak spots on next year's squad either, because as we saw tonight, the offensive line isn't as much of an issue with a mobile QB. Plus, they'll be another year older.

Just gotta make a bowl game this year to have something to build on. A potential 7-6 or 8-5 record heading into the offseason and NSD would be massive.

You pretty much summed up my thoughts from the 2nd qtr on.

I don't think it's correct to say that because Dobbs is better able to bail out a terrible OL that they all of a sudden aren't terrible. Gilliam was better than Thomas, but OL was still bad. Allowing the qb to keep to make the D guess opened up everything (which could have been done with Worley), but the OL was getting beat almost as much as usual.

Did I miss something? Why are some people bagging on Peterman? Did he turn the ball over?

Thought we looked alright on the first drive and on the second drive there was a questionable spot on third down. Idk I mean Dobbs needs to start but I thought Nate did OKAY.

To be honest I'm not 100% sure I am either. But I'm very big believer that when coaches are working with a roster with as many problems as ours still has, you gotta give them time before judging. I think people on here are getting a bit ridiculous. I endured the Dooley years on this board but if that level of consistent negativity begins festering here again before CBJ had finished two years I'm going to have to quit this board for a while. It's completely irrational.

The part of me that wants UT football to be great now doesn't like Bajakian. Im tired of seeing our players get moral victories time and again. They deserve better. But, the logic side of me knows you are correct. Butch needs 4 years at least. This roster was depleted all to hades when he got here. Therefore, I am putting up with the Offense as best as I can. I am excited to see what Bajakian can do with Dobbs, but I am very skeptical at the same time. Can't blame anyway for feeling that way, though imo.

Nate is not the best quarterback, but he is by far nowhere near where a lot of VN members say he is.
