Just read the "random opinion" post by Miracle... and saw him say something about Crompton. That's definately not the first thing I've seen/read alot of posts and stories about him taking the job next year. Personally I'm not ready to just hand him the offense. Everything I've heard from the players and managers I know about BJ Coleman has been nothing but good. He's more mobile than Crompton(i.e. ran the option offense for two years at McCallie), and has made the film room his second home from what I've heard. Here's to hoping there will at least be a competition and that it wont just be handed to Crompton. That being said, our schedule is pretty rough next year, so I don't really see CPF letting a RS Freshman start the year; but I hope he gets a look cause that competition can only help both of them.

I dont think crompton will automaticly get the job. I would just say its his to lose. If he doesnt really screw up in the spring its probably his.

The way Tennessee has been going the last 10-12 years...
Fulmer like getting his Freshman quarterbacks playing time "If" he thinks they can lead the team..

Manning, Clausen, Ainge,

My grandpa talked about this Coleman kid every day...
He says he is a stud and will be amazing at Tennessee..

He personally think's he will be our quarterback next year..

I'm all for it... It should be a good battle in the spring...

Will Coleman be a Redshirt freshman next season?

and.. one more question.. didn't we recruit a kid named Nick Stephen's at Quarterback.. any news on him?

the competition will be between Crompton, Coleman and Terrelle Pryor!

Dude, we're not getting Pryor. And if we do, he's probably not gonna start because he won't pick up the offense that quick. Maybe, if he does come he could pick up by the end of the year. but I doubt we get him.

Unless Coleman/Stevens get serious snaps with the 1st Team Defense, they don't have a chance of overtaking Crompton.

I think that unless he messes up really really bad it's his to lose. In one scrimmage, Ainge threw 3 Ints I think (2 to Parrish) and still even with a broken finger didn't lose the starting job.

Yeah, Coleman will be a RS Freshman next year.

Yes, but he hasn't really been making much impact. He hasn't taken any snaps against the 1st team defense and was average against the 2nd team from what I've seen of him in the spring practices.

It should be noted he was coming off shoulder surgery in those practices...

Stephens, from everything I've read has a cannon. Just very slow (Casey Clausen type slow).

Crompton, not sure his arm is as strong as it was before surgery. He's a top 2 QB recruit before major shoulder surgery.

Stevens was? What was hurt on his shoulder? And I'm assuming it was his throwing arm.
I googled this from scout.com, dated April 2007...

VOLS’ STEPHENS UNDERGOES SURGERY
Tennessee redshirt freshman quarterback Nick Stephens has undergone successful surgery on his non-throwing left shoulder, reports UT head athletic trainer Jason McVeigh. Drs. Greg Mathien and Russell Betcher of the Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic performed the operation Thursday at UT Medical Center and Stephens has been released from the hospital. ”I expect Nick to make a full recovery by the beginning of this season,” McVeigh said.

I've been doing some research on Coleman...

This kid excites me.. Supposedly he ran the triple option in highschool and had about 400 rushing yards his senior year... not to mention 1,900 passing with 19 touchdowns and 5 interceptions...

not bad..
I think fulmer will give him a fair shot next year..

Ainge was a senior QB coming off a quality year. I think this probably says a great deal about Crompton's ability between the ears; which is where it counts for a QB. Just ask Daunte Culpepper.

I understand that Cromp has a MONSTER cannon; a la Tee Martin. The throws he made to Meach in last year's LSU game were, in the words of Randy Quaid, "really nahss". He played serviceably against Arkansas the following week. We could do much worse, regardless of how good Nick Stephens could be. I think Stephens will get a legit shot in the spring, and have confidence that Cut will hand over the reins to he who masters the offense best. If Stephens is as good as your gramps says, the preseason could get REAL interesting.

Either way, I am not too worried about QB next year, given that our tough early conference games are at home.

Auburn and UGA are on the road...

Sounds like a good QB. I am not sure fulmer would allow a qb who wants to run the option though.

Yeah, yeah. Don't bother me with truths and facts. Just details.

Seriously though, two of the first three games are at home, one of which is the 'turds and the away game is at UCLA with a new coach.

The new QB can develop some confidence with UAB, and will be tested against UCLA, then tossed into the ring before the home crowd after an off-week. That's not ideal, but not as bad as the first three games of this year's sked.

As a Chattanoogan, I will have to push for Coleman. He is a little different look for QB than we tend to have. He is smart and with Cut's assistance could very well become Peyton-ish. The aspect that I like is that he isn't limited to being just a pocket passer, he can run too.

Crompton will get the first starts and will remain starter if everything goes well (obviously). However, I will feel real good when Coleman gets his chance!

well I guess the real question would be will the new QB be allowed to open up the offense more than ainge was? If the plays are the same with the new QB it wont matter who it is.

I don't think there will be much of a competition in-between Crompton and Coleman, but more than there was in-between Crompton and Ainge. I don't think it will be impossible for Coleman to get the starting position, but I don't even think especially at this point, that it's up for debate.

Crompton will be the starter going into spring (as the #2 QB prospect in the nation when he was recruited).

Keeping the starting job will be difficult, it will be competitive.

Crompton will probably start next year with BJ Coleman being backup.

From what Cutcliffe has said Crompton has an insurmountable lead in snaps over Coleman, and you know UT favors experience sometimes over raw talent.

Crompton will be a red shirt junior next year so he has had a lot more learn the offense and feel comfortable in it.

Nick Stephens has the strongest arm on the team. I've seen him in warm ups and his arm is unreal. He's behind Coleman in depth chart.

.

Not sure he wants to run the option. That was the offense McCallie ran though. Of all three qb's he has the best running ability.

We do tend to give it to the experience most of the time, but I'm hoping there will at least be a good race for it this Spring. Competition will bring out the best.

It wasn't the triple option, but more of a scaled down spread. He is the real deal. I will wait to crown him the starter till I see what he does against the first team D in the spring, but I think he can be the ONE. I know Coach Cut is very high on him.
