Dobbs worked with the 1s today!

Meanwhile, 550 posts later, NO ONE has posted a report of how Dobbs did when practicing with the 1's. Or if indeed he practiced at all.

Sheesh...

We're still digesting the glowing reviews and massive data from Peterman's session. :w00t:

Why not? Facts matter. The fact is, we were not even losing, much less in a meltdown.

The "fact" is that he didn't have an influence on the score. Derek Brodus could have played QB and kneeled it every play and it would have been the same outcome. Your point is stupid.

Just heard on the Radio that Josh Dobbs got extensive work with the 1st team today. Wonder what CBJ has up his sleeve....hmmmmmmm

More than likely Worley's injury is going to keep him out an extended period and this staff knows that Peterman is not the answer.

He had 2 yards total offense in the half. He had the first quarter by your logic when he was okay to amass more than 5 yards passing

Great. Another lame deflection.

Fact: one of those halves was with a broken finger.

Fact: He hit some passes, and some major passes were dropped. Josh Smith said he felt terrible about his drops. We had more than a couple first downs. Florida was pinning their ears back to exploit the new rookie QB, resulting in sacks and negative yards. Florida had a hellacious defense at that point in the season before all the injuries.

Now why don't you explain the rationale for judging Peterman so harshly for his brief appearance as a new rookie playing with a broken thumb against a brutal defense and hostile environment?

Are we just speculating that Worley won't be ready to go? Is there anything concrete? Serious questions.

Really? Is that why the coaches put Peterman ahead of Dobbs - because Dobbs is better? Are the coaches irrational?

Even before reading this I thought Jones' comments would mean that Worley wasn't going to play Saturday.

Dobbs' reps to me mean one of two things. One, Worley is hurt bad and Dobbs may start. Two, Peterman will start this weekend and Dobbs is being prep'd to back him up in an emergency but Worley is expected back the following week.

Honestly, I thought Worley's injury looked worse than they've suggested when it happened. The sideline reporter said that he said it was "catching". That just didn't sound good.

Great question. I suppose we are all speculating based on the fact Worley got kinda beat up last game and Peterman and Dobbs are working with 1st team.

I have no personal grudge against Peterman. He simply panics when facing heavy competition.

Peterman as Worley's back up has much more to do with Dobbs taking a RS than Peterman being considered a better player.

but if we beat bama somehow and peterman as the QB volnation will love him, and say he had his breakout game

In your opinion.

Yes but based on what we've actually seen rather than what we might wish were true. UF wasn't a very good team last year either. NP collapsed under the pressure just as he did vs UGA. Dobbs wasn't physically ready to play by a long stretch last year. But he didn't lose his head or panic.

Dobbs is obviously the more mobile player. Worley's other skills offset that... Peterman's do not. That mobility could help the OL even though Dobbs' passing ability is probably a little behind.

Well, yes, pretty much by definition, correct?

And it would be exactly the same if Dobbs beat Bama, or if Worley beat Bama.

Beating Bama = breakout game.

I have believed for a long time that if Dobbs could gain and master arm strength that he would become a very good QB for UT. He's very intelligent and handles pressure well to go with good physical tools. I think Peterman has good physical tools and is intelligent... he just hasn't proven he can hand pressure very well.

Dobbs is the best fit of all our QB's for Butch's offense. Without a doubt.

Most of the people hating, I assume, simply do not like the idea of a QB who regularly pulls it and runs. It brings a completely different dynamic for an offense and can be extremely frustrating for a defense.

Considering Dobbs was thrown into the fire against a top tier opponent - and actually made some plays -that is pretty impressive. I've never really understood the Dobbs hate. I've wanted UT to get a quarterback like him for a long, long time.

Agreed. Dobbs, as a true freshman, was inconsistent but had some really nice plays as well. The negatives were the ints and a few odd throws that went to nobody; but there were some very very good throws as well. If you judge a guy only by his bad throws, Favre was one of the worst to ever play the game. (Incidentally, he also bruised his hand in the Missouri game and played on a gimpy hip for at least the last two games. And for folks who want links, I've provided them in the past and don't feel like searching them out again.) There were 3 to 5 flat out drops every game. Overall he was every bit as accurate as Worley. The running was excellent. He averaged 5 a carry, 37% of his carries went for first downs (as a comparison, Dak Prescott's at 31% this year), and the 40 yarder against Kentucky and the 33 yarder against Missouri were fantastic. In fact, 27.7% of his plays (passes plus runs) went for first downs, compared to 26.1% for Worley. There are many many coaches in the country who would have seen Dobbs as a true freshmen compared to Worley as a junior and handed Dobbs the reigns from day one of spring practice.

Then there's this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihrpVZp3gu8

Go to :47 then 4:13. Sure doesn't look like a guy who can't throw the ball.

Having said all this: neither Dobbs nor Peterman got first team reps pre-season, so to expect them to play their best now is extremely unrealistic.

Once again, you keep spewing out inaccurate crap. At that point, after 3 possessions, Peterman was 1-4 for 9 yards, a fumble and an interception, 2 carries for 3 yards. Tennessee's offense under Peterman, AT THAT POINT, had run 13 plays for 15 yards, no points and 3 turnovers. We had 7 points on the board thanks to Driskel's gift pick 6. After the interception where it was reported Nathan hurt his thumb, he was actually better throwing the ball....3-7 for -4 yards and another interception.

So tell us again, when did the meltdown start? Based on his actual play rather than your opinion, it looks like it started on the second snap of the game.

Here is an old news article from 'The Florida Independent' with a brief synopsis.

Peterman’s troubles BEGAN during Tennessee’s second drive of the game. Facing 3rd and 9 from his own 12-yard line, Peterman was sacked and stripped by Buck linebacker Dante Fowler Jr. Michael Taylor recovered the fumble, which led to Austin Hardin’s 23-yard field goal to cut Florida’s deficit to 7-3.

Things did not get any better for Peterman on Tennessee’s ensuing drive, as he threw a pass that was deflected and eventually intercepted by Brian Poole.

Tennessee then punted on consecutive drives before Peterman threw his second interception of the game, this one to Darious Cummings. He was replaced before the Volunteer’s next drive and did not return.

FACT: The pass intercepted by Brian Poole was the pass that Peterman broke his hand on a defender's helmet.
FACT: The (Poole) interception is reported as the first interception. Where are you getting the first interception before the throw breaking his hand?

Now stop dodging and deflecting. Answer my questions for once.
Why are you imposing harsh judgement of Peterman's capabilities based on his brief start against Florida where he played with a broken thumb in a horrendously difficult environment?

Why do you trash a four-star QB, dismissing him based on your superficial surface impressions gathered from less than one full game as a rookie thrown into very difficult situations?

Dude, would you and the Peterman lovers get over it? If he were a good gameday QB at all, I'm sure he would've passed for a first down by now. But no, he chokes every time.

You are simply repeating BS others have fed you.
FACT: You don't know Peterman's state of mind when he is being bull-rushed and attacked by the top-notch defenses he faced as a newbie. Even if he had some nerves, that's perfectly expected of a rookie with no experience facing ferocious defenses.

FACT: You are simply wrong about Dobbs Red-shirt mythology. Peterman won the summer QB competition by a longshot over Dobbs. Peterman won the #2 spot and frankly outperformed Worley, but Worley had the experience and game management skills that were badly needed, so Worley held onto #1.

All these parrots cackling nonsense conspiracies about Dobbs being preserved for next year need to stop. Dobbs got beat. That's the only reason he is #2 and will likely get a red-shirt.

Agree. At least it would give them something else to deal with. Our play calling makes it way too easy on other teams defense when we should do everything to make it as difficult for them as possible. I think we are backing ourselves into a corner and limiting what we even try.

We would need to actually throw from this if it were to work. Otherwise, every time Pig or Hurd lines up at QB, they stack the box and hit us for a loss. Trying to run this more than once or twice a game would result in lots of negative yardage.

Worley and Peterman both came out of Ole Miss game dinged up. They may be forced to play Dobbs if either have issues this week.

I notice you have no argument. Put some meat on those bones.

Explain how Peterman became a four-star QB choking on every game day?

Explain why you pass such harsh judgement on a four-star QB who has barely played - yet played Florida with a broken hand?
