I know its too late but could Butch have brought the team to Richmond's game? That would have been awesome to have the team and buses roll up. Even if they were only there for a half it would make a huge impression. I don't know if this would be against the recruiting rules or NCAA, impressible benefits for the players, but thought it would be a cool idea.

Cant do it

Which reason? I figured there is a rule but we had players at Bruce's game a while ago so didn't know what the difference was.

Also imo, I think Richmond is still undecided between the two of us and he doesn't know where he will end up right now. I don't think it's a trolling job on either school, or attention seeking, or enjoying the process. I really think he is just undecided between the two.

I don't know the rules, but my guess is that the school can't arrange transportation for players to see a recruit. If our players want to see Bruce play in Knoxville on their own time, then I don't think anyone can stop them. However, you can't do it on a school arranged trip or event. Just thinking out loud.

He may be doing it on his own dime, but if you have been around here much you know that the same folks saying Richmond is traveling to Knoxville on his own dime are the same ones who will tell you how Ole Miss, Bama, and UF pay recruits way even on UOV's.

Also word is he does have a GF who goes to UT. Maybe that helps secure him flipping closer to NSD. Or maybe it's just him using a trip to UT to "spend a little quality time with the GF".

:p
Yes because surely Ole Miss doesn't have girls. :eek:lol:

I think we have a major chance here. I'm not saying it's a lock or anything and we need to still have a contingency in place but we're in constant contact with Richmond and he seems to like the Vols. We may lose but it won't be from lack of effort.

IF his GF does indeed go to UT, I'd hope the kids character would not have him going to Ole Miss to see other girls. Call me old fashioned if you will.

It's clear CBJ and company are trying to flip him. I also think it comes down to Richmond or done at OL for the 2015 class. With the staff clearly still pushing for DR, I think other OT's will see that and stick to their commitment(Sweet), and or go elsewhere(Burrell).

I don't see Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss next season. Michigan, UF or some other big time program will come calling.

That is when we will make our move and snatch Drew, Ugo and Kyle.

This.

There is some smoke that some bigger program will make a run at Freeze and I can tell you that the local Ole Miss fans are scared to death.

He is a much hotter candidate than Mullen at State. Apparently Mullen has some marketing ability hang ups.

Coaching changes are a big reason for recruit defections and we need Richmond badly. Would Freeze or Mullen actually leave? If so, I hope they don't go to Florida. I'm really counting on the gators hiring another idiot.

I would think so.

Ole Miss just cannot pay as much as Florida or Michigan can.

I am just not sure it is about the money with Freeze. But, we will wait and see. Sure, you want to challenge yourself at a Top 20 job, but he was born in Oxford and raised in Senatobia. He has roots there and has friends and connections in northern MS and even Memphis. If he leaves, those relationships back home will be different. With the conference money, OM can pay at least 3.5-4.0, and he will basically be a hero at OM. The money won't be that much more at another school, especially if you don't meet expectations and are in the pressure cooker. JMO.

You're wrong about this but Freeze could be willing to accept that. There is nothing wrong with making $3.5 mil per year and there are also cost of living considerations. Purchasing power doesn't get much greater than in the state of Mississippi. This "Ole Miss dream job" theory will be put to the test though.

I ahree with all of this. Freeze is where he wants ro be and is experiencing a ton of success. Gets to live in his hometown, where his roots are, and he's paid well, and will soon double that salary.

Not a lot of incentive to leave those comforts. Not even an extra million bucks/year would buy him away IMO.

Add me to the list of folks who aren't convinced Freeze will jump at the "bigger" jobs. In addition to what has already been said, he is proving this season that he can compete at the highest levels at Ole Miss. Can you imagine a home-town kid winning a national championship at Ole Miss? Talk about creating a legacy for yourself...That would be legendary.

One guy who WILL jump at the first big-time job to come along IMO is Stoops at KY. His name may not be quite as hot as Freeze and Mullen, but if he keeps doing what he's doing at UK, he won't be there much longer.

I just don't think this is accurate...it is a BIG assumption to make that because we are after Richmond that it will cause Burrell, Sweet and Allen to avoid us. At this point, because of our OL woes and the possibility of immediate playing time for more than one freshman I would imagine Richmond has absolutely no affect at all on the other guys. Sounds like you are operating out of paranoia.

Also, if you're the head coach at Florida, with the best recruiting base in the country, you don't need to ever recruit Memphis or even the entire states of Mississippi and Tennessee for that matter. The loss of his Memphis connections would be of no consequence at all, at least professionally.

This, I'm from north MS and he would be crazy to leave here especially right now. Plus I can see OM matching anything anyone else has to offer. They will not be outbid by another school. Think Kevin Sumlin. He got a serious raise. HF is due for one after this season.

Freeze isn't going anywhere. He's a Mississippi boy at heart and he's smack dab in the middle of a new championship contending program.

You have to look at it long term and not per year. Even if he is offered $6 mil/year over 5 years. That is $30 million. If it doesn't work out, he walks away with $30 million but has to find a new job, most likely at a smaller school. But, if OM is willing to pay $4 mil/year, he knows that he is set there for a long time, unless he screws up or unless he just has a disaster season. When jumping jobs, coaches look at the big picture and not just at the figure they are making each year.

I really hope it's Michigan then. This guy can recruit his butt off at ole miss just imagine what he could do at uf

I really wasn't speaking about recruiting relationships. Of course Florida is a better location to recruit. But imagine Hugh Freeze returning home after spurning OM and taking the Florida job. It suddenly seems more uncomfortable when you come home. Those business relationships and even some of those workforce friendships suddenly aren't there anymore. Unless he is willing to retire somewhere else, it becomes quite different for him. It may not be right, but it's reality.

When he was hired initially he said he wanted to retire at Ole Miss, but as college football fans we've all heard that one before. I think Ole Miss will throw a big fat contract at Hugh Freeze and he stays. He has a very secure foundation built at Ole Miss, he could set up shop for a while.

You mean he might have to retire in Florida instead of Mississippi? Who would ever think to do that? LOL!

I'm just messing with you. I don't care what he does. I don't consider Ole Miss a long term threat regardless of who their coach is. I actually hope Florida keeps Muschamp. I just think this belief that Freeze wouldn't leave for anything hasn't been put to the test yet.
