In retrospect you have to admire the way the offense was run that season. He got decent production out of Crompton, walk on o linemen and a surgically pactched up Hardesty.

Compare that to this year- Gatorade player of the year qb, two freshmen linemen and a freshman phenom at tailback. Is this years task of running the offense any more daunting?

No it is not. This team has arguably as much talent at WR as well.

Kiffin would have won if he had stayed. But he probably would have got us on probation. He is a snake.

Yep. Team discipline was a huge problem. NFL Vols was his thing. Brick by Brick for Jones. Bamboo for Dooley. I like what Jones is doing best for building this team. I just hope once he gets all of his recruits, this offense will put up points. Our Defense is getting there.

As sad as it is to say......yes it is

He DID get us put on probation per some 23 rule violations...He also got his ass kicked by a lesser talented Ole Miss team than the one that beat us last night.

I've said this before and I'll hold firm to it, Kiffin is an offensive minded genius. He's a terrible head coach because he lives above the law, but he knows how to call an offensive game. Everyone said he had little to do with the success of USC under Carroll, but I beg to differ. He'll never be a great head coach, but under the supervision of a great head coach he can build an offensive power house. He'll recruit very well for Bama, and he'll develop those young QBs into very good college players for them.

Kiffin' situation was a lot better. Hardesty was a 2nd rounder, Bryce Brown was no slouch, and Crompton had just been through too many different offense coordinators.

This might be true, but it has nothing to do with the fact that THIS staff has so grossly underachieved, given a set of circumstances that are fairly similiar to what LK had. Pretty obvious that no one on this staff is in his league as an offensive coach/playcaller.

Kiffin knows his X's and O's - there is no denying that.
Butch on the other hand may be the best recruiter on the planet but his X's and O's only worked in big east (when they did not play vs Rutgers or someone else ranked in top 25).

Why don't you ask Willie M and Jancek about Kiffins ability as a playcaller. I'd be willing to bet you money that Bajakian doesn't get anyone fired this year.

He lost to several teams at USC that were lesser talented than what he had and he was the play caller...Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl was a pathetic performance in particular as was Washington St last year. This Kiffin thread is just ignorant.

Yeah. A genius...in special ed.

He's not a genius. He's a kid with toys. Like that friend growing up that had to be first player.

Winning with USC and Alabama talent doesn't make you a genius. GG tho.

Maybe....but thats not the point of this OP. The question was...did Kiffin achieve more at TENNESSEE offensively than this staff has. The answer is yes...he did. It isn't about Kiffins character or what happened at USC.

You guys have gone off the crazy charts if you think kiffin was a good coach. There were many problems off the field, he ha multiple recruiting violations, his recruiting class had the worst attrition in recent memory, the tampa 2 defense was atrocious which he allowed his father to run of whom he eventually fired at USC. He could run an offense and get a 7-5 regular season record. The future did not look bright under him.

Thank you for attempting to steer the topic out of the ditch. You can disagee with me that Kiffin achieved more in a difficult situation at UT, thats fine. I said nothing about the NCAA, his childish demeanor, idiotic press conferences or his tenure at USC. Also, the very first thing I mentioned was that I disliked "the hiring" of Kiffin. I never even wanted him here. I'm simply stating that in a similar situation, Butch can't even find the end zone. Even against a poor team like UF

Let me see....did Bryce Brown play for Tennessee? Hmmmmm....I don't think so!

You realize that gatorade player of year is a nothing award, right? Worley was not highly recruited.

Not willing to go there yet. I'll wait and see what he does with some better Oline recruits. I'm sure they could change the offensive scheme but I have to believe that he just wants to get it engrained into the entire offensive teams way of thinking so they live and breath it until it becomes second nature. We need better Olinemen and a better QB for sure. I don't see us being a whole lot better on offense next year but our defense should be one of the best in the SEC with the added depth. We will be in most games next year and if oline marginally improves and we can get some decent QB play, we may win 7 games next year. With that said, 2016 better be the year we compete for the East.
