Drastic action needed on Ebola

Clearly, the people running the hospital don't know what they're doing. How could they? They've never handled anything like this. But isn't the CDC supposed to be running point on this? Shouldn't they have known that the hospital couldn't handle this? Shouldn't they have demanded that Patient 0 be placed in a facility that could handle this (assuming there is one)? Especially in light of their own practice of only handling ebola with the strictest protocols (full body air pressure suits, etc.)? The CDC is not blameless in this.

You don't need the CDC to not send a West African who is a sick as a dog home without admitting him, watching him, isolating him, and testing him for Ebola. You don't need the CDC to isolate a guy that has tested positive for Ebola. You don't need the CDC to wear protection when interacting with the Ebola patient. If you don't know how to properly decontaminate, pick the damn phone and call the CDC.

You can't fix stupid. These guys were extra stupid at every turn. There is no defense for this hospital. They ****ed it up every way they could.

Playing devils advocate here;

Weren't we all told by the POTUS the Ebola couldn't get to the US, don't worry about it? (paraphrasing of course)

In the initial contact with the patient, the hospital and staff probably never even suspected Ebola. After remittance and confirmation, did they even have treatment and handling protocols?

You're putting too much on the hospital outside of sending him home.

I agree that the hospital hasn't handled things well. But do you not see a problem with the "Hey, we're the CDC, we handle ebola in a Level 4 biohazard containment facility with experts wearing space suits, pressurized rooms, etc., but go ahead and treat this bleeding, vomitting ebola patient with your gloves, gowns and facemasks" approach that the CDC has taken?

And you're suggesting that the nurses weren't wearing protection. Well, I suspect they were - gloves, gowns and facemasks. Unfortunately, they apparently need a pressurized space suit.

The guy should've never gotten here to begin with. We banned flights to Israel during Hamas rocket attacks, but won't from hot zones? Makes Zero Sense

Per the link in my above post. The hospital handled this terribly. Allowing the first Ebola victim lay for several hours were other patients were before being places in isolation is all on the hospital staff.

The thought of Ebola probably never crossed their minds.

I didn't say no blame. Keep in mind the hospital staff had zero Ebola training.

Now Breaking: Second health care worker flew from Cleveland to Dallas the day before showing symptoms. CDC trying to contact all on that were on the plane.

Where did you see that? I was on a SW flight last week from Cleveland that was going to Dallas.

NM found it.

This has plenty to do with the CDC. They claimed we have professionals who are trained to handle these situations, that's why there's no risk in having Ebola patients in the US.

Despite all the attention on this guy, they can't even insure this single hospital is doing the right things. They can't send a single one of their purported experts to make sure the right precautions are being made.

Wow. And all those that got on the plane after that. And the connecting flights they were on. And the people they know. And the people they know....

How on Earth is someone in that group of close contact providers for Duncan allowed to get on an airplane in the first place ?!?!
