'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

If we had to choose :

Phillips, Amadi, Perry

Or

Walker, Taylor, Abernathy

I'd choose #2 all day

No question that I'd take #2. Here's my breakdown:

-Cornerback: Abernathy > Amadi
Abernathy > Perry

-Athlete: Walker > Perry

-Defensive end: Phillips > Taylor
Phillips > Walker
--Let me follow that up by saying that all 3 guys are right there with each other and pretty much on the same level as prospects. I just think Phillips is the more complete DE prospect right now so that's why I gave him the edge over the other 2 who are more of pass rush specialist at this point. For UT I think Taylor and Walker may be the better prospects because we are looking good with SDEs after the 2014 class and the addition of Butcher and Jackson in this class, we need some guys who can get after the QB and that's what Walker and Taylor bring to the table. I'd personally take Walker over Phillips bc of that fact but would love to get both.

Absoultely. Out of the Phillips group, the only one I want UT to get is Phillips. Thoughts of Abernathy and Martin playing CB should get everyone amped up.

Agreed but it's not just as simple as passing on Phillips. They will continue to make him a priority IMO until NSD. Things change with staffs, with recruits, etc, it happens all the time.

Phillips is a good player but if he weren't in state we would be discussing him that much. Same with Amadi. I actually like Perry better than both.

Phillips has stated playing for a winning team is a priority for him. Ole Miss will have a better record than us than us. Rebel, IMO.

Yep and after Ole Miss blows us out in 2 weeks I guess his decision will be cemented if it isn't already.

I agree, but recruiting is, in part, about perception and momentum. We have to get the kids top who are in-state to keep any recruiting momentum Butch has established in the region. Good TN players want to play with their buddies.

That said, super excited about Perry after watching his film

What makes you think we get blown out. WE quite possibly could be the best secondary Bo sees.

Our D can hang with their O but there is the worry that that get worn out Due to our offenses lack of production vs their D. Best defense top to bottom in SEC this year. If our oline doesn't man up its a long day

I agree with this, but I don't see a blowout. Our D is the real deal and has been tested repeatedly in this young season. We're not deep, but we're solid with a bunch of guys who play their roles and some studs mixed in. Our weakness is the inside d line, the outsides has been containing well, our lb'ers have been stuffing gaps, and our secondary has been lights out

Yeah we need some guys to step up to provide depth to help our guys that are playing too many snaps so they aren't effected for the November run

If we can't score against Gators, can we score against Rebels?

The prognosis is'nt great, but it helps to have seen several teams with great defenses prior to playing them. By now, we should be able to scheme a little better. I havent given up on this o line, but you have to wonder if this early gauntlet has helped our hurt their motivation/psyche.. Playing OK, UF, and UGA this early in the season is a daunting task for any o line, but hopefully it turns into a situation where these guys buy in and begin communicating.

Pearson should be in a little better shape by then. I'm hoping him and North being on the field at the same time will work a bit better. Hopefully Smith is also back by then. Our WRs didn't do much against the Gators to get off coverage. I'm hoping Jones jumped on their asses hard after that performance. Who knows what shape Hurd and the running game will be in then though.

Ole Miss is a top 5 team, we haven't won a road SEC game in years, can see us hang for awhile and then the defense falls apart late after wearing down because Ole Miss owns time of possession. Could be wrong obviously, if OleMiss wins this week they could have a letdown vs us since we're a bottom tier team after having played Bama and Texas A&M. Perhaps if everything falls right we could keep it competitive but when was the last year anything fell right for UT in a conference game, especially on the road? Not trying to be negative, just realistic. Either way, don't see our play this year swaying Phillips away from Ole Miss or LSU

CB is trending Ole Miss and that usually means inside information has been obtained... Good thing we didn't get Perry assuming a package deal....

Looked through your post history...obvious Ole Miss troll. Ignore.

Yeah, you keep holding on to those crystal ball predictions. I mean they have never shifted gears and went another direction in the past. Besides since when is 3 guys considered trending (one being an Ole Miss beat writer)?
