Barnhart lists Cut as candidate at GaTech

Shhh... we don't need to be making comments that make it appear that Cutty is not a bad hire. We need to encourage Cutcliffe to pursue coaching opportunities where ever they come up (preferably, not in Knoxville).
He sure can get 'em to throw some smokin' 5 yarders.....and nobody can abandon a game plan as quickly....and, as far as the whole play calling thing goes....he sure knows what he's doing(and my 15 year-old knows what he will be doing ...and the other team knows what he'll be doing).....come on guys ....WE SUCK.....and DC sux and CPF sux. He should be gone as soon as we lose the SECCC game:salute:

Techies would NEVER allow Muschamp. The whole issue Gailey got fired over was no wins over UGA. There's a pride issue there with hiring a UGA grad and former player to coach there.

Cut would not fit with their system and the players they have now.

Johnson is definitely a possibility. I see him as a great fit. Sports radio even said a team of Johnson/Tenuta would bring Tech back around right quick.

I am still seeing Cut's name mentioned a lot in connection with speculation about the GaTech job. Supposedly there will be a press conference on Thursday because they could not interview everyone they wanted to due to some coaches having remaining games over the weekend.

Losing Cutcliffe would be a huge blow. :eek:hmy:

Who do we have in the Tennessee coaching family that would be a good candidate to replace him?

I hope he goes and does well. And beats UGA. A lot. The last two years of that probably help him for the Georgia Tech job.

I talked to some GT people this weekend and his name was brought up a few times.

Assuming Cut leaves, if we want a really good OC to come in then that person will have to be given the freedom to pick their own assistants.

Surely Roper follows. Now if we could get Chavis on board we have gotten something accomplished!

Is anyone hearing anything about who Arkansas is going after? Surely their not putting all their eggs in the Butch Davis basket.

i should add that even though Cut is 53, his heart condition is going to cause schools to treat him as if he's 60 or older. Like TVA says. If he wants to coach, there is no reason to stand in his way.

His heart condition is probably better than most of the people his age. Just because he had bypass surgery doesn't mean he isn't healthy. If he has taken good care of himself since, then he is MUCH healthier than he was before surgery. And I can't remember if he had a heart attack or not, but if he didn't, his health is probably better than MOST of the people on this board.

Also, REMEMBER, Mrs. Cut' has a say in this move. If she says no then forget it.

Note:

She wanted to return to Knoxville.

IF that happened, which would shock and awe me, I think Cut would be a prime candidate for the UNC job. Alot of the Tech fans seem to be coalescing around Chris Hatcher from GaSouthern who I think fulfills their desire for someone younger and he is someone they seem to see as a young Paul Johnson.

No its not. Cut is one of the most overrated OCs in the country. His play calling is average at best. He is best at discipline and QB coaching. I would much rather have someone willing to change a little than someone stuck in a rut with the same offense. Lets see if Fulmer will actually have a "national" search like he said last time when Sanders resigned. I kind of hope both our OC and DC are gone after the season.

Fulmer is not going to go outside of the Tennessee family if Cutcliffe leaves.

BTW, I was being sarcastic.:birgits_giggle:

Tech needs a young, exciting, up and coming type coach, not an old guy like Cutcliffe with an out of date offense.

Do you remember the out-of-date offense that Tom Osborne/Frank Solich ran over/through/around/ us with??? How did that turn out?

Out of date my a$$.

Execution is what is lacking in Cutcliffe's offense.

Despite the admirable and valliant effort that Rogers and Taylor have made this season, really playing beyond all reasonable expectation, I think that in the final analysis the loss of the starting WR corp is what hamstrung the offense this season. We all talked about it before the season and looking back it seems to be one thing that couldn't be fixed. There was never a deep threat and defenses crowded the Vols all year. Hopefully Paige, Campbell and Maples will be another Meachem, Swain and Smith group for the Vols.

I really doubt Cut takes another HC job. But, I wouldn't be too upset if he did. Of course, the odds we'd replace him with an up and coming innovative OC is remote. Besides, if it's someone CPF doesn't totally trust, then he's not going to let go of the reins anyways.

But it would be nice to get our offense out of the '80's.

ESPN says razorbacks talking to Tommy Bowden can't see why he'd leave Clemson [ lot of good young players]
