Johnny Majors used to say, "If 'Ifs and Buts' was candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas." I'm not going to talk about Refs and crappy calls and IF this or that hadn't happened. Bottom line, we shouldn't have lost today.
I'm a diehard Vol fan. I always will be. But today hurt. Frankly, it sucks. Epic fail. Incredible lost opportunity.
I wasn't as upset about Georgia or Oklahoma because I really thought Georgia and Oklahoma were the better teams. I was really pleased with how the kids played.
I'm disappointed today because I really, truly believe that Tennessee had the better team. Tennessee wasn't outplayed. Tennessee not only LOST the game, they gift wrapped it and gave it away with a big bow on top. They did it to themselves. That's what hurts.
This was a golden opportunity for this program. It could have been a real turning point for this program. Instead, it's another lost opportunity.
It will be difficult (not impossible) for this program to go 6-6 and make a bowl game. Everything will depend on how this team reacts to this loss.
Up until today, I really felt like Butch Jones had Tennessee headed in the right direction. I still do. Unfortunately, they took a HUGE step back today. Hopefully, they learn from this and improve.
It's very difficult to swallow a decade of Florida dominance, but unfortunately, we have to suck it up and deal. Florida owns us. Alabama owns us. Heck, lately, the entire SEC owns us. I look forward to the day we flip that back to the "good ole days". I'm tired of saying wait until next year. I thought this year was "our year" but it was not to be.
Regardless, I'll swallow my pride for another year. (I freaking HATE Florida!) I'll support my team and I hope for better things in the future.
It's great to be a Tennessee Vol.
But lately it's HARD to be a Tennessee Vol.
Hoping for better days and former glory! GO VOLS!
