We have a lot of young players and we need to keep an open mind tomorrow

Reality? There's always a "reality" that can be used as an excuse. Last year? No talent. This year? Too young. And next year and next year and next. If you want one, there will always be some "good reason" that expectations cannot be raised until sometime later.

UT needs a GREAT, not good, coach. Great coaches coach great. They deal with their "realities" and win games anyway.

Jones has actually been good at that at previous stops. I'm impressed that he's take his "reality" and looked competitive against OU and UGA. But at some point... the reality has to be that UT wins some games in spite of the "reality" of some reason they "can't".

The degree to which the deck is stacked against a team that plays 21 freshmen is ominous compared to other situations. I agree that there will always be a new marginal excuse to throw out there. But this year's youth is one that actually has merit. I agree that it isn't something that can't be overcome with inspired play and good coaching up. My point is merely that if Florida plays like they are as talented as they actually are, we could lose even if we're playing our best. It wouldn't be an indictment on the coaches, but many in here are claiming it is "put up or shut up" time, implying that if we don't "put up", then Butch should be "shut up".

This is exactly why I try not to post after "subpar, fan expectation" losses. This place becomes completely detached from reality.

But that is what helps me after a lose. Laughing at all the drunken post on VN.

It's just as bad after a win. One win and everyone thinks we are headed back to go to the NC game.

I would raise a red flag if we would should lose to....let's say, a Ga. Southern. Not to a team that has as much if not more talent than we do.

So we will always have built on excuses because the SEC has plenty of talent in it.

Hooray excuses! !

What am I excusing? I'm just not going to jump off a bridge should we lose tomorrow.

backpedaling already started...wow..

But then again, this is VolNation and the irrational people are everywhere..

IF UT loses, this place will be on meltdown alert. And that will be sad. Because that's the most Georgia thing that a Tennessee Fan could do.

Some people are acknowledging that we could lose to Florida, and that if we do, the fans will be justified in head hunting the coaches. The only point I am making is that we could lose this game without it meaning the coaches suck and that we are doomed until we get Gruden. You seem to believe that the only way we lose is if we play poorly or some other coaching mishaps.

This isn't a must win game. Wins like this ARE a must.

UT's measuring stick for a coach is two tiered. Top tier are UF and Bama. Second tier are UGA and of late USCe though they probably sink back into the abyss when Spurrier decides to become a full time golfer.

The more lopsided Jones' record gets against UF, Bama, UGA, and to a much lesser extent USCe.... the less secure he is. The sooner he starts evening it up... the better.

The right coach at UT.... will make a habit of beating teams with as much or even slightly more talent.

Jones has done that in his previous stops. But if he's to be the right guy at UT... he needs to start doing it here.

This will rile everyone except for Daj up... but UT in raw terms probably had more talent than USCe last year. If you look at Daj's numbers and they are validated by accurately predicting outcomes.... Jones has not beaten a team with more talent yet at UT and has lost to a couple with less talent.

Or for those measuring success by beating the teams we're "supposed to" beat-- well, this is one of those games. We're favored, it's in our house and talking heads, "experts" and statistics are projecting a Tennessee W. So... it's time.

At what point do we get to expect to win?

Is this UF team as good as UGA or OU? If UT continues to correct mistakes and improve... going into UF at home... is it wrong to think its time for that "big win"?

No. But it's a little crazy to expect a blow out as some have. I have seen nothing from our offense that would indicate a blow out against UF.

Also I think some of those predicting a blow out are using the Bama game as an indicator. Our offense is not on the same level of theirs.

Exactly. You can't win until you think you can.

1) Fans don't play the game
2) Everyone here and on the Arnge team believes we can and should beat Florida

Making a thread about why not to eviscerate the coaches in the event of a loss is not the same as admitting defeat.

Not the same subject I was on at all, lol. I was making comments about the change in attitude of the team.

And Sam, don't think reading a message board gives you complete insight into what everyone is thinking. It doesn't.

Thinking you can win is one thing. Predicting blow outs with a very young team with a bad OL is another.

I think we will win but it will be close.

It's a message board. I heard comments in both directions at work today. It's just people talking. Nobody can actually predict what's gonna happen. Otherwise, there'd be no point in either team talking the field. It's all just fan talk.

But we're gonna win tomorrow. That's a fact. :)
