I don't think so. Let's hope he doesn't go if offered. I trust Butch Jones to be a man of his word. He doesn't seem sketchy at all. I am confident Butch is fully invested in UT. We shall see. If he is the right man for the job he will only leave kicking and screaming.
What word would he be breaking? None. Has he said that he will not consider any other offers that may come his way? And if you really think loyalty is paramount to him, then who do you think he feels loyalty to? His freaking hometown. His community. He loves them. They love him.
Anyway, if UM offered CBJ the job, he'd take it.
I think what some of you all forget is that Jones was about to bolt Cincinnati for Colorado until this job came his way
Now, it does make me feel a little better that he was really wanting this job and went as far as to let Hart know he wanted it.
Hopefully, he keeps his word and is here to build us back
Butch Jones isn't going anywhere. First of all, I doubt UM has CBJ on their short list. Secondly, it would make zero career sense for CBJ to bolt UT at this time. Just the roster he has built and the talent he has coming in tells me this. If Jones is the coach we all are hoping and thinking he is, then he knows as well as most of us do that this program is very close to turning the corner. No coach in his right mind would leave all this upside to go to a program that is trending downward. Makes no sense. I know he is from Michigan but he has no ties to the UM program so I don't see any pull in that regard as well.
Most of his staff are Michiganders.
. . . but with all this talk about whether UM would want Butch, well their fans are already starting to blog about it. See the below link. Presents a pretty reasonable summary of the whys, why-nots, and probably won'ts.
Coaching Candidate: Butch Jones ~ He Follows Brian Kelly Everywhere; His Price is Fancy! | mgoblog
In any event, I repeat my call for the AD to award this coaching staff bonuses based on recruiting as well as wins, and seriously look at other bonus worthy factors like game attendance, game and label revenue, offensive / defensive statistical progress, etc. When a program has been as far down as our has, I really think you need to apply the "game of inches" mentality to evaluate progress until the "W"s start to amass.
Open to thoughts and rebuttals from my Volnation brothers and sisters.
You build a program, make a name for yourself in a community that elevates you to god status and then bolt for the pros to become a mediocre coach. Worked for Spurrier, Rick Patino, et al. Surely a smart guy would forego a few mil to stay off the roller coaster and maintain the god stature.
I'd bet they try, but his heart truly seems to be with us. That being said, $$$$$ talks.
Haven't y'all heard......Last week Peyton closed on some land and signed papers that he is now Coach n waiting......as soon as Butch leaves for Michigan and if you believe that...I have some ocean front property in Arizona to sell you......:thud:
