So Michigan is looking..

Whether people want to admit it or not, Michigan can do better than Butch Jones. Maybe in a couple of years if we start winning some games then this will be a problem, but not now.

Let keep letting them think this

I think what some of you all forget is that Jones was about to bolt Cincinnati for Colorado until this job came his way

Now, it does make me feel a little better that he was really wanting this job and went as far as to let Hart know he wanted it.

Hopefully, he keeps his word and is here to build us back

Forgive me if I don't sweat Butch leaving for one second. I think he wants to prove himself on the biggest stage, and also to be blunt we can go ~.500 with just about anyone that comes our way. Yes he can recruit, but I don't think his coaching is electrifying ADs across the nation yet.

I think he will gut it out at TN and find success here because he is a winner and he wants to show everyone that. He is certainly not afraid of putting in the work.

I don't think so. Let's hope he doesn't go if offered. I trust Butch Jones to be a man of his word. He doesn't seem sketchy at all. I am confident Butch is fully invested in UT. We shall see. If he is the right man for the job he will only leave kicking and screaming.

What word would he be breaking? None. Has he said that he will not consider any other offers that may come his way? And if you really think loyalty is paramount to him, then who do you think he feels loyalty to? His freaking hometown. His community. He loves them. They love him.

Anyway, if UM offered CBJ the job, he'd take it.

You don't know that

Butch Jones isn't going anywhere. First of all, I doubt UM has CBJ on their short list. Secondly, it would make zero career sense for CBJ to bolt UT at this time. Just the roster he has built and the talent he has coming in tells me this. If Jones is the coach we all are hoping and thinking he is, then he knows as well as most of us do that this program is very close to turning the corner. No coach in his right mind would leave all this upside to go to a program that is trending downward. Makes no sense. I know he is from Michigan but he has no ties to the UM program so I don't see any pull in that regard as well.

Agreed. I trust Butch, and I have been excited about this hire from day one. I think he's made commitments here that he didn't make at his first 2 stops.

Excuse me for pointing out the obvious, but the biggest stage (despite all the southern sweet tea) is the college football playoff. And what's the best way to get there?

You don't know that

I know this- in addition to all the other things that make sense about such a move, Hart and Tennessee couldn't possibly counter a Michigan offer. So, while you're correct that I "don't know," I'm on the safe side of that bet.

Most of his staff are Michiganders.

Most of his staff are Michiganders.

This may be true but we're talking about Jones here. But, if his assistants are feeling the pull to go back north then I guess they will have to wait and see who UM hires then hope for that call to be on that staff. Like I said, it doesn't make any sense for Jones to consider the Michigan job or any other job at this point. He is taking steps forward in rebuilding this program. He will see it through and take it as far as he thinks he can take it...that would be smart, career wise and I think he is smart enough to see something so obvious. However, let's play this hypothetical and say he had a brain fart and takes this UM job, if offered. Unlike the previous two UT has had, Jones will be leaving UT in great shape for the next candidate. One of the very first things a potential candidate looks at is the roster and what he can do with it. UT is a national brand in the most respected conference...this alone makes UT an attractive job, couple that fact with the roster Jones would be leaving behind makes this even a more attractive job if it were to come open (for Gruden). But, this is all just hypothetical...Jones isn't going anywhere, period.

. . . but with all this talk about whether UM would want Butch, well their fans are already starting to blog about it. See the below link. Presents a pretty reasonable summary of the whys, why-nots, and probably won'ts.

Coaching Candidate: Butch Jones ~ He Follows Brian Kelly Everywhere; His Price is Fancy! | mgoblog

In any event, I repeat my call for the AD to award this coaching staff bonuses based on recruiting as well as wins, and seriously look at other bonus worthy factors like game attendance, game and label revenue, offensive / defensive statistical progress, etc. When a program has been as far down as our has, I really think you need to apply the "game of inches" mentality to evaluate progress until the "W"s start to amass.

Open to thoughts and rebuttals from my Volnation brothers and sisters.

Hmmm, interesting how he pointed out that our fan base was very "unappreciative" of what fulmer meant to the school and the program and what he accomplished. yet, this fan base has this ugly little arrogance about how they treated our legendary ex coach. It's funny how butch is being shown all this fuzzy little love and support but watch and see how many fans ditch him if he loses to Florida. all I can say is butch, you have my support and patience thru the rebuilding years, just as I showed patience with Phil, I pledge to be patient with your rebuilding of this once very proud program.

Asinine. They couldn't afford not to.

This. People underestimate how much money a University actually has. In the long run, a couple of million is chump change if that's really what it takes to keep one of the university's big time moneymakers (football) afloat.

I know you're not serious about the money.,,,NOW THATS NIAVE!!!!

Michigan will more than likely go for a big hire and try to get a coach from the NFL. We already have the rumors about them having possible interest in John Harbaugh floating around.

You build a program, make a name for yourself in a community that elevates you to god status and then bolt for the pros to become a mediocre coach. Worked for Spurrier, Rick Patino, et al. Surely a smart guy would forego a few mil to stay off the roller coaster and maintain the god stature.

what about little nickie, it didnt work to well for him either

Lol at people that think Tennessee couldn't match, or beat, a Michigan offer... Wtf is wrong with some of you???
