It's kinda comical watching vol football fans squirm and moan and whine after each sec loss. You guys brought this on yourselves by forcing out our hall of fame coach. Hammy fired Phil because you fans got your panties in a wad because be had one bad season. Well guess what, Tennessee hasn't had a winning season since Phil got the shaft..I guess all that whining backfired ehh??

I have said this for a while now. Have you ever noticed that Tenn is the only program where a rebuilding job takes 4-5 years or more? Kevin Sumlin, Hughes Freeze, James Franklin, and Mark Stoops are all proving otherwise. Next year, we have Peterman or Dobbs. It will be just as bad. Tennessee needs to win now.

The reason it is taking 5 years is because we made 2 terrible coaching hires. If Hamilton had hired the right guy in '08 we would've been fine.

You seriously think Mark Stoops is doing a better job than Butch? Did Butch have Johnny Freakin' Football running his O, which in turn rewarded him with some freaky offensive talent? Freeze is still a big ? And you do know that Jimmy Frank was beaten by Dooley his 1st year before the Dools completely ran the program into the ground?

Yes we've got to get rid of the losing attitude, but I largely think we have. Yes, we will have Peterman or Dobbs next year, but we will also return pretty much everyone else on Offense and Defense, and add in another influx of elite talent. I think Worley and AJ are the only 2 guys who we will really miss, yet LB corps should be fine. QB will be our biggest question mark, but it may be our only unknown as the rest of the team will remain intact and improve. Next week should be another step on our road back to the top.

Kitten was really the last resort. Hammy and the fans wanted fulmer out so bad that no one thought of the consequences of what firing fulmer would do to the program

I am pretty sure Ole Miss has made a bowl appearance in all 3 of Hughes Freeze's seasons in Oxford. His first year was with very little talent. Vanderbilt, as much as I dislike them, proved that winning with minimal talent is possible, and yet fans in Knoxville refuse to acknowledge James Franklin's success there. A&M's rebuilding job was coming off of a very mediocre season, and Sumlin put up major statistics in his first season. Kentucky, well they are making improvements we'll see where they go. Regardless, Tennessee has more money, tradition, and resources than all of these schools and yet "the rebuilding process" remains ongoing in the name of Kiffin/Dooley. At what point do those two chumps stop being an acceptable excuse for losing football games? All teams play freshmen. This isn't unique to just Tennessee. And one other thing, the QB issue next year is a huge issue. I wouldn't sweep it under the rug.

This isn't unique to UT? Which of those schools had 2 coaching disasters in a row in a span of 4 years, and play UT's non-conference schedule, and have Bama as their permanent cross-division rivalry?

These "no excuses" curmudgeons and whiney sob sisters starting threads like this are an amazement. I truly believe they're the kind of folk you see driving on a flat tire down the shoulder on the interstate until the wheel rims cut it off. Could well be a fixable flat, but NO EXCUSES gotta get there! They gonna drive to the next exit.

No way are they going to take the time to fix what's broke. And in their haste make matters worse. (Truth is they don't plan ahead to be sure the spare has air or they've got their jack & lugwrench in the car.)

Then they'll kick the car for letting THEM down. No excuses! /sarcasm

Nothing about the OP's post is irrational. It is all true. That is the tough part. Actually, the tough part is finally realizing the losing mentality that has been bred over the course of the last 10 years. You guys are okay with losing as long as it isn't "ugly". It is sad.

That "losing mentality" was ingrained the last few years but because Butch Jones hasn't completely destroyed it over his first 16 games, we should what... fire him?

From every public account of this team, there isn't a single guy wearing the orange who is "ok" with losing. It motivates them to work even harder. It hurts them to give their all for Tennessee and lose.

After the last several years I'd say that's an AWESOME improvement. The on the field results are coming... perhaps as soon as next week.

BS, if we hire a good coach in '08, or at least one that would've been committed to the program for more than a year, we would've been fine.

Also, Kiffin wasn't the last resort. We fired Fulmer around early November and hired Kiffin the Monday after the season. He just turned out to be a lying turncoat who didn't appreciate the opportunity he was given.

I guess you kinda forgot we fired fulmer late in the football season. Again kitten was a last resort. He was the best available hire at the time. What we should have done was kept Phil. End of story

I give props to nobody until we start winning freakin' SEC football games, which might be never. I'm tired of being told that we should "chill out," or that Butch has got us on the right track, or that we are "close," or that we should be "patient" because the OL or the QB or the WRs or the RB or the laundry boys "need more experience;" I'm tired of hearing the "if onlys"---if only Worley didn't get hurt, or if only we didn't fumble or if only the officials didn't hate us. We've been on an excuse treadmill for 10 years. There are ALWAYS issues--every year: we will always be playing inexperienced players, there will always be injuries and bad breaks, etc. EVERY team deals with the same things. You either win or you don't. And we don't. Until we freaking' start winning, nothing encourages me. Worley will be gone next year--and we'll be lining up with more excuses. I like Jones--but until he wins games he's done nothing.

Oh, look. This guy again.

Dead wrong. Dooley was the last resort, you proved my point when you mentioned that Phil was fired late in the season. Kiffin was one of our first choices, or at least Hammy's first choices. There were plenty of other coaches we could have gone after.

Yep, and those games have killed us. Bad administrative decisions all the way around. I was ecstatic when I found out we scheduled UMass. Those are the games I like, because Tennessee just simply cannot compete in the SEC as of late.

So you wouldn't call today's game competitive? Or last year's UGA or USC game? C'mon man.

The 3 coaches in 3 years set us back more than a usual coaching change, especially when the last of those 3 coaches might be the worst coach in SEC history.

Do you even follow recruiting? This staff is night and day to the last one in that department.

Wrong. Fulmer got fired in October and there was plenty of time to make the hire.

It amazes me how name calling becomes the common theme with you guys when a poster disagrees. Disagreeing with someone is one thing. Name calling is another. Uncalled for, and some of you need to grow up. Oh.. And check into reality.
The notion of you telling others to check into reality is laughable.

Reality is what it is. Go look at Tennessee's record. Our irrelevance is glaring. Is recruiting improving? Yes. Has it translated onto the field in terms of W's? No.

But it will.... Everyone is hungry for wins, but this team is young young young man!......and depth is anorexically thin.... If you can't look at this team and see improvement over last year's in spite of the youth then you need to start watching bowling or something.

No..recruiting was well underway and fulmer had already began putting together a top five class when he was fired. hind site is always 20/20. I clearly remember fans thinking the kitten hire was genius. fulmer should have, at a minimum, been given at least two years to correct the problems.
