I guess Sterling Johnson, Austin Clark, Marquell Harrell, and a few others would disagree at least to some extent. They all held offers, are OL guys, and were slow played or given an outright no when they tried to commit.

I thought we wanted Johnson as a Dt?

Settle down, let your calculator cool off. I was attempting to translate the gibberish from above at the bequest of another poster.

I don't think so. He was always mentioned with the OL guys early on.

That's great thing about recruiting a lot of elite DTs. If they don't move well enough and aren't explosive enough to play Dt, have em gain some weight and play oline.

A lot of lower level schools only recruit DTs and then move em to oline if they don't work out. I'm a db coach by trade, so it's kinda similar. If I go to a d2 or d3 school next year like I'm thinking about, I'll make my living taking high school rb's with good ball skills and teaching them to play corner or safety.

IF UT ends up signing both McKenzie and Tuttle, I have been wondering if Picou would not make for a good OL guy. He is athletic and moves well. Already in that 300LB range. Would not mind it a bit if he stuck at DT, but IMO OL would not be out of the question. I'm not sure if he has ever played OL or not which of course would factor into him being successful there.

No, he wasn't. Sterling Johnson was prepared to commit but the staff told him that our numbers at DT had changed due to some of our current players adding weight and we didn't plan to sign as many as initially thought and we just wanted just the best (understood to mean McKenzie, Tuttle or Settle) plus Picou...You could say the staff 'slow played' Johnson because they did try to get him to go to camp so he could be further evaluated but he understandably accepted an offer from Clemson while it was on the table.

He was not. I was mistaken. Looking back in his thread, there were several times where it was asked if OL was a possibility for him and maybe that is what I was thinking of. There was a lot of discussion in Johnson's thread about Robertson and Mosley moving to OL so I'd guess that was around the time Sterling was favoring our Vols.

Thank you, sir. I was wondering how the heck I had missed that.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Why would Picou move to a position he's NEVER played (that I'm aware of)?! That's just setting him up to fall behind in development and get recruited over. If you want OL, recruit and sign OL. JMO.

Jashon Robertson

We've had lots of DLine Recruits switched to OLine and have done very well. They tend to be more athletic and most of these guys play both sides in high school.

Jashon played both in high school...and was rated higher as an OL.

I said him being considered on the OL would in part depend on IF he had ever played it before. I have no idea if he has or not. A lot of DL kids do/have played OL in HS. Also IMO taking a guy who is 6'3-6'4, athletic, and 300LBS as a DT and moving him to OL, is different as he is already comparable size for the position he is moving to. Now taking a DE and trying to add 40-50LBS to him , and teach him a new position is a different situation at least to me.

I think one major flaw with your argument as it relates to Dylan Jackson is that he looks like he will not have to add 40-50 pounds. With his current size and the fact that he is only a Junior it is very likely he is 275-280 when he first steps foot on campus. Now he might play DE and 275 and be a stud. Absolutely possible. But this idea that his career will be ruined if he moves to OL because he did not play OL in high school is absurd.
