'15 NC RB Rocky Reid (Wake Forest commit)

I agree. With the staff even hinting around at looking at more RBs, I can't say I blame Reid for considering other options. Also very easy for other schools to point to the number of backs UT has/is taking and make their situation look a lot more appealing.

I like Vaughn, but I like Reid better as IMO he brings something to the table we don't have right now.

I keep watching James Connor, and Rocky Reid runs like him. I want Rocky Reid!

Evidently we just offered 4* RB Mark Walton out of Miami (currently committed to Miami too).

https://rivals.yahoo.com/miami/football/recruiting/player-Mark-Walton-149303

Why just now are we offering the #2 back? A little late to the rodeo, no?

Been committed to the Canes for about a year. He shows as a 2016 RB, but there is an article at the bottom saying he is trying to reclassify to 2015 and what would the Canes coaches think about that. Are they not planning on taking him if he is now 2015? Odd UT would be in this one at all at this point IMO.

That's what I was thinking as well. Interesting about the reclassification. I didn't catch that. I was wondering why I couldn't find his name in the 2015 database, but he came up in Rivals when I googled his name. Can anyone give us some insight on the reclassification article?

Yeah

Underachieving bruiser > underachieving scat back

Who's to say Rocky Reid would be an underachiever? In my nonexpert opinion, his film looks pretty good. Tennessee needs down hill runners. This program has been missing that for a while now.

Hurd 6'3 235

Paulk 5'9 215-220

Reid 5'11 235

IMO would give us the power we need out of the backfield. I agree with you that I am tired of the 5'9 170-180LB RBs just because they are fast. 3rd and 3 or 4th and 1, I like to see some power and a little less dancing.

Jones is recruiting the best backs in the nation and that's what it takes to win. You don't need a "downhill" power back when you've got a stable of high 4 And 5 star backs that can do it all.

I agree. Our O Line has alot to do with our inefficiency in the run game. Even last year's OLine was subpar at run blocking. I think alot of it has to do with scheme, which, overall, I am not a fan of Butch Jones's style of offense. I believe it is still a work in progress, and at this level, he is trying to tweak certain areas. Running back wise, I look at teams like LSU, UGA, Arkansas, AL and wish Tennessee had that dominating presence in the run game. At what point did we lose that?

IMO we lost it when the OC was too worried about keeping Tyler Bray upright for the passing game and did not hold the OL accountable for being nasty run blockers. As long as Bray was not sacked, the OC did not care how the OL opened holes for the backs. If you want run blocking OL guys, you have to recruit those type of kids. Run blocking is a different mind set/attitude and not all OL guys can do it. Hopefully we are starting to get some guys who can.

no one should be bummed out here. Reid is going to be a good fullback for someone or maybe even a tailback at a school like NCS or Wisconsin. He just doesn't have the speed to play SEC ball.

We are upgrading here.

He isn't a FB

But I'll reserve judgement until it all shakes out

How do you know Rocky didn't start looking around first and we aren't simply reacting to that?

I have not seen anything posted over the last couple months that mentioned Reid was looking at taking any additional visits. Did I miss it? Since UT has started to offer other RB's over the last week or so, now talk has started that Reid may be looking around.

I'll also say I would not question a RB at all choosing to look elsewhere rather than be the 5th or 6th RB taken in just 2 years for a school. So many schools take 1-2 a class now, it sets up better for the kid to see the field sooner.

I think he expressed interest in Wisconsin's program after his commitment.

My point was, bruisers can bust just as easily as scat backs, especially in this offense. We need production any way we can get it, whether he be a down hill runner or a cutter (D Scott). The idea that we absolutely need a down hill runner is a little old fashioned in my opinion.

TN has had down hill runners. Lane runs north and south, he's a good back but doesn't scare anyone. Alden Hill isn't on the team anymore.

We just need someone with tree trunks for legs that can bowl through tight spaces without going down from arm tackles. Maybe we have one that will grow into that, but Travis Henry's and Ron Dayne's are getting tough to come across .

How about we ignore Wisconsin comparison and just say Travis Henry and Jamal Lewis :)

Henry and J Lewis were 15+ years ago. Wisconsin ran for 650 yesterday. I have no problem with us patterning our ground game on theirs.

A lot of RBs at Wisconsin are successful year in and out bc of the OL. How many backs from Wisconsin are starting in the NFL?

Zone Read offense best fit is a combo of a power/initial burst with great vision to read those open lanes to get through. Hurd has the power and speed. Hopefully he will learn to read the open lanes. If he does, he's gonna be a beast.

Well not to berate the point, but Wisconsin has the same number of NFL starters at TB as UT, Texas, UGA, USC, Auburn and numerous other TB rich programs. No college program other than Bama has two NFL starters.
