The fact that he goes to MUS is what troubles me. If he were attending just about any other school in Memphis, I'd be more confident.

"We are exactly one week away from Drew Richmond‘s announcement and it appears that things going down to the wire between Tennessee and Ole Miss for the 5-star offensive tackle. As we have mentioned before, Memphis hasn’t typically been the kindest of in-state areas to Tennessee over the years, and this battle with Richmond is again driving that point home. Ole Miss has an extremely strong contingent of supporters in the Memphis and greater-Memphis area and Tennessee has always been a tougher sell to recruits from that part of the state (See: Michael Oher, for example). Oxford is only a little over an hour away from Memphis, whereas Knoxville is closer to a six-hour drive that parents and family members have to make to visit or catch a game.

Richmond visited Ole Miss in mid-August and the Rebels have had some steady momentum in this race ever since, but it looks as if Tennessee has been right there every step of the way to counter their momentum. Regardless of who Richmond ultimately announces for next Tuesday, he has maintained that he will still be open to being recruited and taking visits to other schools, which means that Tennessee will still have a lot of work ahead of them either way – be it in an attempt to flip Richmond or make sure he doesn’t flip to someone else."

that first paragraph is what I was trying to tell people quite a few pages back when the discussion was in regards to Ole Miss kids from Memphis, in particularly MUS.

Lynx- just curious why you say that. We have had some prior success at White Station, but I would rather him be at a private school than a public one. There are quite a few students each year who go to UT from Memphis private schools, including my good friend and roommate at UT from MUS. Richmond also has his former QB at UT (Rodgers) and appears to have a very good family.

Sorry, but Michael Oher is not a good example. His adopted father is about to have the OM basketball facility named after him. Maybe Jordan Wilkins or Barry Brunetti (via WV) are better.

I don't think his recruitment is necessarily over, when he chooses. Even if he picks Tennessee, which I don't think he will, Butch will have to fight for him all the way to NSD.

Uh...what does it mean when one of Tennessees biggest booster has had people trying to hook him up and get involved in Richmonds recruiting?

It's probably nothing but it does sound kinda bad.
Lol. Memphis has always been dirty as hell as far as recruiting practices.

Of course a big booster with perceived influence on the program is going to be solicited for potential shady recruiting practices.

You can bet your bottom dollar on that. It ain't over until the fat lady sings when Hugh Freeze is involved.

Oh come on now we can't pretend to be saints in recruiting Memphis. Look at Roy Adams himself.

Especially since he has given 1000's of dollars and cars to our players in the past and isn't exactly shy about it.

I kind of wish I could go to one of his parties.

Lots of fatties in MS

Adams was disassociated from UT athletics by Doug Dickey and UT hasn't taken a donation from him since the 90's. Some of his claims are also less than credible.

If you don't know the story of Roy Adams, you can look it up. I don't believe he is really a booster anymore because the school disassociated with him a while back. I doubt he has been to a game in years. Nonetheless, every Saturday in the fall, he invites anyone over to his house to watch football on multiple tv's. He knows local coaches and many if them in addition to former players (probably mostly Memphis) will come by.

I hope Richmond is watchin the Vols play, he has a great great opportunity. He should see Tennessee is building something special and the O-Line is where we need the most help. He could be part of the cornerstone to building a championship line along with a championship team. GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!

It sounds like many have resigned themselves to the understanding that, if Richmond chooses UT on Tuesday, the Vols will be in a serious fight and may not hold on to him until NSD because he will be a soft commit.

In other words, next Tuesday's announcement is more a public proclamation of what Richmond is feeling at that time.

With that said, we'll the sentiment really be that UT remains in serious contention for a flip on or before NSD if he announces for Ole Miss?

Ole Miss has been garbage for at least fifty years and had one good season during that time under former Tennessee Coach Cutcliffe.
Lipstick on a pig doesn't work...it's still a pig.
