'15 NC RB Rocky Reid (Wake Forest commit)

I won't speculate on Gurley's NFL comparisons, but I will say this: He's on a different level than 99% of current college running backs. Offensively, you name it and he can do it: kick return, punt return, pass pro, slot & outside receiver, speed runs, power runs. And he's awesome at all of those things, too. He's basically the ultimate all-purpose offensive player, and at 6'1 230 and with his speed, he's really in a league of his own in the college game.

Unfortunately, he's going to have his way with our interior DL and probably our ST unit too. I fully expect he'll be a Heisman finalist if not winner if he stays healthy.

Easily my favorite current non-UT player to watch. Just an animal.

Todd Gurley is the best college RB since Adrian Peterson

You can definitely make this argument. I, however, think that both McFadden and Richardson were better. I don't think they were better by much, and my opinion could change by season's end. Right now I feel that McFadden and Richardson were better though.

Gurley is a one in a million type player. Last RB to have that much talent was Adrian Peterson.

It's easy to get excited about prospects but make more reasonable comparisons :)

Chubb will be just as good if not better IMO.

1 game?

He's looked like that since he started as a Fr against Buffalo 2 years ago.

He played just as good Vs Clemson last year, and he wasn't even healthy the majority of that game.

It's just because of this recent game that the poster said he is the best back since AP. Gurley is very good but AP he is not.

I didn't watch much OK football while AP was there (or ever), but based just on stats, I don't think it's a ridiculous argument. Gurley has more TDs in fewer touches, he's more active in the passing game, and he has a higher YPC. May be a product of the OK system vs. the UGA offense, but I dunno. Gurley has been really good his entire career.

Gurley is special and has been. We're not in that game last year if he's playing. But he is not by himself in terms of special RBs. Here's a few I can remember from the last 20 years off the top of my head:

Richardson
Peterson
McFadden
Bush
McGahee
Clarett
Cheese
Jamal
Dayne
Ricky Williams
Robert Smith
Marshall Faulk

He might not be AP, but he's been the best RB to come out of college since AP left. That's what everyone is saying, and they're probably right.

I'm older so my list goes back a little further. :)

Best college running back I ever saw: Herschel Walker or Bo Jackson

Herschel is still #12 on the all time rushing list and he's the ONLY runner in the top 12 who only played 3 years. At his best, he was unstoppable. And he was at his best a LOT. Bo was a physical freak. Like Herschel, he was 6'1" and 230lbs of solid muscle. Both of them ran 4.4 forties and weren't afraid to run over people. That was the golden age of running backs.

Best single season by a college running back ever: Barry Sanders

And it's not even close. Check out his numbers. He averaged 238 yards and 3.3 touchdowns per game in 1988. It still seems impossible that it actually happened.

For what it's worth, I think Reid can be a Walker or Jackson-type back. Not in their league physically --- but he definitely has their attitude.

Herschel and Bo were great RBs because they could just plow right through you. Barry was a great RB because he'd make you break your ankles trying to catch him. Barry was so fun to watch because even in the NFL, the way he could stop and start was just mind-boggling. Easily the most elusive RB of all time imo.

That is true about Barry. I may get flamed for this and I know that they don't even play the same position, but I see flashbacks of Barry while watching CP. They both have that rare ability to make NFL defenders look like children. CP's moves are some of the best since Barry.
