Questions/Information for those attending the SECCG in Atlanta

I have to strongly disagree here. Perimeter/Dunwoody is way too far. If you're coming to Atlanta to see the game and have fun, you dont want to stay in the suburbs!

Would you go to Nashville and stay in Cookeville?

Would you go to Knoxville and stay in Cleveland, TN?

haha.

Plus, MARTA is to be avoided at all costs. It is the worst public transit system ever.

Nashville is 1 1/2 hours from Cookeville ( I know, I went to Tech) Dunwoody to the Dome is 15-30 minutes depending on traffic (I know, I live here). As far as public transportation goes, MARTA is acceptable.

Why trash a great city? Come to Atlanta, have fun, don't be paranoid. We're good people.

PS Avoid the Varsity at all costs until after the game if you don't wanna be stuck in the crapper!

if you think downtown ATL is still that dangerous, it's obvious you haven't been there in about ten years. I have never agreed with anything volmanbill said, which is odd considering only one letter differentiates our monikers, but he's right here. downtown atl for the seccg will only be dangerous for the five year old if you let go of his hand and you lose him amongst all the people.
Bill (great name BTW) let me buy you a drink (or 3) this weekend if you're in town. We're both passionate Vol fans and have the same result in mind.

OK,

I have read every post in this thread and still have a few questions for the Natives/Residents.

A) I am driving in from Nashville on I-24. Should I just stop at Marta Station N11/North Springs and ride the train into town to aviod traffic (I plan to drive back after the game) or is there a "better" stop I should choose or that is more convienient to the Interstate.

B) I am not paying $150 for a ticket. Is scalping legal or illegal? I went in '01 and '04 with tickets in hand and didn't pay any attention to scalpers. I plan to buy tickets there, but I want to keep my "never been arrested" streak of 25 years going.

Thanks Guys.

P.S. Can there be a VolNation meet and greet at one of the CNN Center Bars?

Make sure you are looking at the map right and that you understand that North Springs station is not on I-75, it's on GA 400 which is around the perimeter a few minutes to the east of I-75.

There's a tradeoff with the North Springs MARTA station . . . You have to drive just a little further up GA400 to get there and the ride in is a few minutes longer, BUT it has a direct exit from GA400 meaning you don't have to bother with any surface streets to get to and from the station.

Scalping is not illegal, but is highly restricted and the cops can sometimes be a little tough. Just be careful.

Just a side note...there is no exit for the North Springs station as you travel North on 400. You must go to the next exit, get off and back on, then exit at the station as you travel southbound. Same thing as you depart the station.

Ok, so coming in from the north is that the one you would suggest or is there another that might be more convenient?

The people that live up there can tell you for sure, but I think I'd go to North Springs just for the convenience. The Dunwoody station is very close to I-285, but I'm not a big fan of driving up there.

I go to the Oglethorpe stop based on the short ride/lack of traffic...it's still essentially in Buckhead and people don't start getting on til the Lenox stop...

Take 285, get off at the Ashford-Dunwoody exit, follow it to Peachtree Road (it may be Peachtree Industrial at the light but I think it's Peachtree Road here...there's a tailor shop on the right and the sign says no right on red...the road ends, you can't miss it)...take a right...you'll have to take a left on North Druid Hills to get to the lot, but it's a pretty good part of town and the parking lot is huge...usually don't have to wait too long for a train...and, like I said, the ride is shorter from there and - since no one is on yet, you can generally get a seat instead of having to stand...

If you're taking that line, though, you'll need to transfer at 5 Points to the blue line headed west (if you get on the wrong one...you'll know in about 2 minutes when it takes you through the projects).

That makes sense, but do you not run into traffic congestion trying to get out of Buckhead though?

The only reason I suggested the stops on the North line is you get to them first and you don't have to drive as much.

Well, it's in the vicinity of Buckhead but you don't actually drive through Downtown Buckhead to get there...it's more Brookhaven.

If you absolutely insist on parking downtown and haven't been to Atlanta, I highly recommend either getting a GPS or commandeering one from a friend if you don't already own one...finding the exit ramp is sometimes next to impossible.

...or at least find a map. There are definitely places near the Dome that you just don't want to be after dark.

North Springs is a great spot. Plenty of covered, lighted parking, good area, by far the least traffic around the MARTA line.

The CNN Center, from the looks of some of these threads sounds like some sort of mall...??? with libation establishments...?? Is that the general consensus on where to go before and after the game, if coming into town on MARTA? We're coming in from Charlotte on 85S, which station(s) would be best?

The CNN Center is an indoor shopping and mostly food court style food places. There is a really good sports bar in there called Jocks and Jills. Always very crowded on game days.
Google "marta" and you can down load the train and bus schedules. Coming in on I85, your first station is just inside I285, the Doraville station. There is parking at the station. Have fun!:good!:

CNN Center is just kind of where you end up, unless you go to fanfare. Fanfare is worth seeing . . . once. . . for a few minutes, but if you don't happen to get tickets then don't bother. It is mostly for kids. CNN center is simply where you will end up before the game.

I stayed in Alpharetta,GA a few weeks back. About 15 minutes/miles from Atlanta but very nice area to stay in plus MARTA goes there.

I have no idea about the hotel, but having gone to school in Atlanta I can tell you that I wouldn't sleep in that area of town without a kevlar vest and an armed guard at my door.
I agree GV. I use to go to a lot of Falcon and Braves games. At one time they had a Howard Johnsons walking distance downtown, that was a long time ago.

MARTA doesn't make it up to Alpharetta yet. It's supposed to by about 2030. (Seriously.)

I guess you could probably take a bus from Alpharetta down to a train station, but that's hardly worth it. If you're staying anywhere on the north side, park at North Springs and take the train in.

Marta does go to North Springs and that IS the western most part of Alpharetta, right off of GA400. Great area to stay and plenty of good restaurants, shopping(North Point Mall) and nice hotels. Have Fun.
