ISIS Takes Control of Mosul

At least when it comes to the politics thread.

He likes steely dan so he can't be 100% a tool.

Have you seen some assessments that argue this? I know they started with relatively small numbers but they've grown and their resources have expanded massively as they've gobbled up assets.

I have to 100% disagree with you. This isn't anywhere near over.

I'm not saying it will happen next month, but these nuts can't run a long-term government. They have no allies, sooner or later their subjects will revolt.

I mock you simply for the fact you ruin 90% of the threads u enter.

I don't really have anything against u or anhbody on this board.

Be honest, this place wouldn't be near as fun or interesting without LG. He's the unsilent minority around here. He takes an incredible amount of abuse on here (some I think he legitimately asks for) but keeps coming back.

The Taliban seemed to do it okay.

AQ is like cock roaches.

I kinda see them like the huns with much better assets, tons of cash, Internet savvy and benefactors who will use them when it suits their needs.

I agree. As I said I don't hate the guy more just mess around.

The way he worded it in his speech was that we would only undergo airstrikes if Americans or American infrastructure is threatened so I'm not sure how to view this.

Typical false choice style we've seen repeatedly

The United States can’t intervene in every international dilemma, Obama said. He acknowledged his own eagerness to end the Iraq war, but said America must act in the face of a “ruthless” and “barbaric” campaign by ISIL.

That begs the question how does one choose which conflict to intervene in or not?

Agree but no one holds the position that we should intervene in EVERY international dilemma so claiming we can't do so is a false choice narrative since no one is advocating that we do. It is a meaningless qualifier.

Admin must be monitoring VN

It takes going to the edge of a cliff for this administration to realize arming the Kurds was the best and most logical option we've had in this mess. I guess on the bright side common sense has finally come to the White House.

They won't need long term allies. They will attract every individual nut and kook in the Sunni world and will be dug in deeper than a tick to remove.

Shots have been fired.

@PentagonPresSec
US military aircraft conduct strike on ISIL artillery. Artillery was used against Kurdish forces defending Erbil, near US personnel.

I hate to think I'm becoming this cynical but I can see them saying that these actions will be popular at home and thus might help is pole numbers vs this being the "right thing" to do.
