'16 NC QB Austin Kendall (former UT commit)

By signing day 2016:

6'3"
Rivals: 6.0 - 4 star, top 5 pro style QB
247: 94 rating, top 100 overall

And he signs with UT as expected.

Bank on it.

EDIT: My point? Superior evaluation got us on the kid earlier than some other major schools. He's the real deal IMO.

2016 is a long way away. Let's say UT underperform and UK overachieves. Maybe he reopens his recruitment. He might still choose UT, and imo that's a wise choice. It's not surprising he wanted to commit to someone like butch, he's killing it in the recruiting world.

Like I said, I'm glad UT got him, disappointed he decided this early, but certainly not "sour grapes" lol.

Even in that scenario, UT would beat UK. It's a moot point.

Thanks Mike. What you're saying is that's it's early and his stock as well as his offers will improve. That's what I suspected but I typically don't look that far in the future for recruiting classes. Also, we typically don't have many kids committed this early.

Just pointing out that the UT coaches ARE getting kids that bama wants. About 1/2 of the current UT commits hold offers from bama.

I realize that but at a position as important as quarterback, you typically have less room for error. Everyone was using the word elite and I was simply asking why.

Both teams were 1st year coaches with terrible talent, Uk especially. I'm more interested in 2nd and 3rd year impact of recruits.

I threw my opinion out there. I'm not predicting he's flipping. Just pointing out 2016 is a long way away and he has connections to other schools.

If Barker succeeds in Neal Brown's offense, I'm sure UK will attract a good QB to step in next.

With the way ole Saban has been recruiting lately, I'd expect he will offer Kendall sooner or later. He does seem to follow CBJ lead when it comes to offers.

(Tennessee offers, bama offers a little bit later).

Surprised he made a choice this early. Thought he would have waited to pick between Tennessee and kentucky, especially with a brother at uk. Wouldn't be shocked if he decommits and thinks again, but either way glad UT him since we didn't.

Ahahahahahahahahahahaha. What a jackass lololololol.

I'd rather quit football than play it in front of 30 strong at uk.

There's no "typical" anymore for this program...except for a new pace of recruiting where we'll have the 2018 class sewn up before the end of next summer. :clapping:

Exactly. This staff doesn't wait for other coaches to make an offer or a recruiting service to rank a kid. They made their evaluation, went after the kid with their best recruiters, and (as usual) scored.

QBs are a different breed. You need to get on the best ones early. They can be the rock of your class. I think we scored big here. I expect Kendall to start recruiting other 2016 players immediately.

Really? From a size standpoint, I guess. From an arm strength and accuracy standpoint, they seem pretty opposite to me at the same age. Stafford had/has a cannon of an arm, and his accuracy suffered a bit as a result. The book on Kendall seems to be quite the opposite.

They ae both 6'2 and mobile Stafford is 230lbs and this Soph is 200lbs

This. And he will probably perform better than he is rated since he committed this early.

Those second guessing or that simply don't know should watch his videos, if they haven't already. Then read the analysts' comments. Then remember we are talking about a rising junior that knows what it means to be in Knoxville and playing in the SEC. Then look at our coaches' reactions to his decision. Make your own judgment based on what you see. Then if you disagree state why.

Pure stud of a QB. He has every tool you need to be successful at this level not only because of his physical skills; he has intangible talents such as awareness, focus, quick good decision making, and leadership. His teammates just know he is going to make the play so they go hard at their roles. His freshman highlights look like many better rising seniors. That is exactly what you are looking to recruit. He will still have to earn the job, but I like his chances a lot if he stays on the path. I believe he will.

Yeah but you have said just because coaches extend offers doesn't mean they would take their commitments. So how do we know Bama would have taken all of their commitments? Answer, we don't. Just using your logic LV.

I used the "offers" as that is about as close as we as fans can get to "having any idea if a staff wants them or not". Honestly it does not really matter to me what a kids offer list looks like. About half the current UT commits holding bama offers tells me we are recruiting the same kids talent wise. If the UT coaches take the kid, I'll roll with it. 2*, 3*, 5*, does not really matter who else has offered.
