'15 NC DT Shy Tuttle (UT commit 9/26/14)

I never thought I'd live to see the day TN would sign two five star DTs in one class (I'm 23)

I'm 29 and the closest mofo d-line class i remember was 2002 with 5-star D-ends Mondre Dickerson and J.T. Mapu. That class also had two 4-star DTs Justin Harrell and another 4-star D-end in Parys Haralson.

That's my best recollection. You can search old classes on Rivals back to 2002. That class may have been #1 on rivals.. someone can correct me.

We signed Albert Haynesworth and Terrea Smalls in the same class back in the late 90s. Both were ranked among the top 5 DTs in the nation at the time. Of course Smalls moved to O-line and never had much of an impact.

Albert Haynesworth alone made that almost stand alone as GOAT. And if Tuttle and McKenzie turn out like we all think... we have new GOAT in the modern era.

Just checked, that 2002 class was overall #2 on Rivals.com

Terrea Smalls. Now that is a name I haven't heard in some years. He coached at Knox Central my freshmen year. Huge guy. Anyone know what he is doing now?

The '02 class was ranked no. 2 by Rivals.com (Tennessee Signing Classes 2002-2010). We had three 4-star defensive tackle signees: Justin Harrell, LaRon Harris and Greg Jones. Only Harrell, who was ultimately drafted in the 1st round by the Packers, completed his eligibility at UT. Originally recruited as a strong-side defensive end, five-star Jonathan Mapu completed his eligibility at defensive tackle. Five-star Mondre Dickerson was also recruited for the former position, but he was eventually dismissed from the team. After completing his eligibility, Parys Haralson was drafted in the 5th round by the 49ers.

On paper, the '02 class was probably our strongest on the defensive line. However, three of those 4- and 5-star signees washed out and Mapu was not as effective after returning from his 2-year Mormon mission.
