'15 TN OT Drew Richmond (Former Ole Miss commit)

How many of those kids listed were instate commitments(TN)?

While there could be various reasons for each not signing, I think most were not so much the staff telling them to look elsewhere.

Booth wanted to be an EE. Would the staff still took him on NSD? Who knows.

Powell stayed instate which was always a strong possibility.

Brown as you mentioned was grades.

Lambert could have been questionable grades or he could have very well just flipped on the UT staff.

Lee bailed as the depth chart scared him. Not sure I see that being a factor with the current commitments and only a few spots left.

Dews was always a GS candidate and questionable to be a Vol. Grades were reported an issue as well.

Mouhon could have been asked to look elsewhere or was it him wanting to play ball with his brother? Would the staff have taken him on NSD? Who knows.

Jackson was grades obviously as he did not sign anywhere and is still in Juco. Juco and grade concerns kind of go hand in hand.

Could the staff had told some of these guys to look elsewhere? Maybe. Maybe not so much?

NEW STRATEGY: Take 35 commitments by keep piling on as many 4 and 5 stars you can get and see how many commitments look at the list and say "Holy ----- I will never see the field." About 3 to 5 will leave anyway for various reasons and the rest you stop showing "love" and tell them the likelihood of sitting on the bench for 4 years.

Dramatic. Everyone knows he was referring to their football ability, not their personal character. 99% of the world is riff raff when it comes to SEC football. You sound like PETA and GLAAD and NAACP getting outraged over comments because they use nonstandard adjectives about anything related to a person or animal.

Disagree
Riffraff is a derogatory term.
Has nothing to do with being PC. Was not an appropriate desriptive term. The poster edited and changed his word choice.

riff raff
noun: riff-raff
disreputable or undesirable people.
"I don't think they talk to riffraff off the street"
synonyms: rabble, scum, good-for-nothings, undesirables, lowlifes, hoi polloi, lowest of the low, peasants

Has nothing to do with having a scholarship yanked. Calling 17 and 18-year-olds scum in a public forum because they have a lower rating as a recruit is disgusting.

You probably shouldn't put words in his mouth. He's not calling them scum because they're a 3-star and not a 4-star; he's simply saying some recruits who commit throughout the process turn out to have serious character issues.

Here's Michigan State quarterback commitment Jayru Campbell (involved in a little riff-raff) body slamming a school resource officer. You want this guy leading your offense? So knock it off with the sanctimonious drama.

Several teams remain in the mix to land Richmond's pledge but Tennessee is certainly at the top of the list of competitors that Ohio State is up against. Richmond was in Knoxville on Saturday.

"I was at Tennessee this weekend," he said. "My parents had never been there before so they just wanted to see it. My mom had been to Alabama and my dad had been to Auburn but this is the first trip they made together. They liked the visit."

Richmond maintains that he is holding firm with that September 9th announcement date and still plans to take official visits after announcing.

"I'm sticking with that date," he said. "I'm still taking visits afterwards. UCLA will (get a visit) and maybe North Carolina. The other ones are still open for now. I didn't get the full experience (at UCLA) last time so I'd like to see the game atmosphere and I didn't get to hang out with the players as much when I was on my visit."

Richmond is rated the No. 40 overall prospect in the 2015 recruiting class and the top prospect in Tennessee.

Riff raff is used in every area of life to mean "not very good." You're in a small minority who probably isn't very in touch with modern day connotations of words if you think it's a universally derogatory and offensive term.

Edit I don't mean that offensively, my parents aren't in touch with modern day connotations either, doesn't make them dumb, just some people don't keep up with how the use and meaning of words change from generation to generation.

He seems like a pretty legit dude. He's from Houston so I'd say he's probably an A&M fan.

That being said if he can throw for 3000 yards and 30+ touchdowns I'd love for him to be our quarterback.

Heard he could've played the Lakers and Raiders. 5* IMO

Talked to Drew Richmond tonight...

Drew said the visit was good, but said it was much more about his parents seeing Tennessee.

He said his parents really liked it and his dad hit it off with Butch.

Richmond said regardless of his decision he will still take official visits. I asked him regardless of his decision if Tennessee would be a place he officially visited and he said he would definitely visit in the fall, but may save his officials for places he hadn't seen yet.

He said he's getting tired of the recruiting process and is looking forward to a decision and at least dealing with fewer schools.

We will have the full update after tonight.

Why would there be a meltdown after he announces his commitment to UT?

I think he means there will be a lot of stressing out if he follows through with his plan to take all 5 OV's after his commitment here...to schools he has never been to before which is a really a$$ backwards way of going through the process...Hopefully, Butch could talk him out of that (assuming he is committed here).

I would rather see him go to 5 places he don't care about then 4 places he strongly considered. He did say it would be to see schools he hasn't gotten to see yet.

And if I were the coach of one of those schools, I would not allow the visit. I would use the visit on a kid I actually have a shot at signing. Using an OV on a kid just wanting to have fun is not very smart IMO.

Very true I wouldn't either but some people think they can flip anyone, " If we could only get him on campus".

Once this kid commits on Sept 9th he will shut it down. We won't have to worry about him once he commits.

This! He's just throwing out recruit speak right now. When he commits to the Vols, he will say that he's shutting down his recruitment and will only take an OV to Rocky Top. Book it.

The recruiting process, while there are some that wallow in it, is a taxing drain for most. He has said as much himself in being tired of it. He may take one or two OVs but he's gassed and IMO will shut it down sooner than planned.
