I Remember.......

During the Blizzard of 93 my dad drove his VW bug as far up the mountain as possible then walked the rest of the way home....a couple days later we decided to walk to the bottom of the mountain and get a ride to the store.....we were looking for his car on the way down and walked right by it....we found it on the way back up and it was buried in snow.

I remember when I could ride a bus uptown and see a movie, and stop and get a burger and still have change back out of two dollars .....

I must have a few years on ya. I can remember doing it for about a buck. :)

Bus from Vestal to town was around 25 cents round trip and the movie was about 50 cents then I would have a burger and coke and always brought money home

I just want to say I hate each and every one of you for making me wish for a life I will never have.

I was part of the last generation (my sister who is 6 years younger than me can't) that can really remember playing outside all day without parental supervision, coming home dirty as hell and getting hosed off then made to stand in the sun before being allowed inside. I remember before everyone had car phones and cell phones. I remember before the internet came and started wasting all our time. I can remember when having a second TV became a big deal. (the first TV i remember was black and white). I remember playing outside in the woods getting hurt and not wanting to go inside to get bandaged so i stayed outside and just rubbed dirt in the wound. If I was going anywhere within two miles I was walking or running parents wouldn't give me a ride.

I pretty much always lived in the burbs (yuck) except when I was real little we lived out in the country, I remember walking with my mom to get groceries, hard to remember how far that was.

If I was going fishing I loaded up all the tackle on my bicycle and started pedaling.

Yep. I was talking to my brother about that this evening. They have "created" a lot of urban nature trails in the area I grew up in. We went on one tonight and I asked him if he remembered this from when we were kids. They took the old trails we blazed through the woods years ago and turned them into "Urban Hiking Trails".

I remember when ML baseball actually made a difference to me...when my heros were Mickey Mantle, and Roger Maris and Yogi Berra ... when hitting 61 meant something because it was without roids ....

Now I can't even name a current player

I remember when we actually popped popcorn on a stove top and added our own butter to pop it in

It was a pretty big event as I remember it. When we were going to the drive in, Mom would fry chicken an pop some popcorn for our snacks. When we were going to the mountains for a picnic, she would fry chicken for it. Dad would wrap it in aluminum foil and place in cavities on the intake manifold and it would be hot when we got where we were going.

Now there is a memory....I had forgotten ...A Saturday night drive-in was a big deal at our house Mom would pop popcorn and bring a bag of penny candy ...

us kids would sit in front of the car and watch the movie, we would throw rocks in the air so the projector would pick them up in the light till dad would catch us and make us stop :whistling:

I remember on Saturday mornings going to the country store and putting my peanuts in the glass bottle of Pepsi.

We'd usually spread a blanket out and picnic while watching the movie. Fun times.

Have done this several times.... and when I get off this crazy diet I think I'm going to do it again

And Sly those were some good times

I hear there is a drive-in in Maryville, I may go there this weekend and drink a Pepsi-Cola in a bottle with peanuts

I still pop my popcorn on the stove, best way to do it. Also down here in Atlanta easy to find Coca Cola in a bottle, not all the good times have left.
