Or Tom Steyer...the BILLIONAIRE former hedge fund manager in San Francisco that made much of his fortune with big bets and investments in the oil and gas/energy industry who is now leading the charge against the Keystone XL pipeline. Typical "I got mine, now pull up the ladder!"

I keep my options open to the evidence of climate change, but don't think for a second that a carbon tax or cap and tax scheme is going to do one thing to combat climate change. It will only soak the taxpayers, enrich the political elite and their bureaucratic cronies, while uber liberal left money men like Steyer and Hollywood actors that already have their millions continue pushing this agenda.

 yes, indeed sir.

1934 is the hottest year on record

Dumb myth is dumb. This one is particularly dumb because the changes were made after McIntyre, a "skeptic" climate blogger, correctly pointed out an error in NASA's code. On the rare occasion that the skeptics are right about something NASA acknowledges their error, fixes it, and then the skeptics howl "omgz data fudging!!1!"

Give me a break

Lmao… do you have any reasoning behind this conjecture, or are you just regurgitating spoon-fed tea party rhetoric? You realize cap and trade was a republican idea that has been used successfully for decades, right? If you have a better idea you better get it out there quick because carbon pricing is on the way.

I don’t like O, didn’t vote for O, but at least he’s smart enough to side with the overwhelming scientific consensus instead of denier ideologues. History does not look kindly upon their ilk.

For all of you long-term participants in this thread, I would like to pose a question before diving in: Has there been any significant commentary here which presents paleoclimatological data of periods which are significantly warmer and colder, respectively, than the present? Or has discourse and arguments therein been focused exclusively through the narrow historical lens of the post-Little Ice Age, a period for which evidence of global warming is irrefutable and the only period for which virtually complete and accurate meteorological data are available?

Who cares if it was a Republican idea? What possible significance does that have in whether or not it is an effective strategy that will accomplish what it's proponents claim?

Define "used successfully".

Finally, the fact that carbon pricing is on the way does not mean it is a good strategy.

The discussion has mostly been confined to the past 800k years with occasional reference to earlier times. Sandvol is still stuck in the medieval warm period :p

Welcome to the thread :hi:

Pretty much this.

If there is overwhelming scientific evidence (not consensus) of man made climate change why hasn't the Ultimate Global Warming Challenge $500,000 prize for proving it been claimed? That prize has been available for the taking since 2007.

Maybe you should submit your proof.

"Used successfully" meaning "effectively mitigating environmental problems at only a fraction of the predicted cost"

So, then, have the ramifications of the massive and prolonged Siberian Traps volcanic eruptions--which at least partially triggered the Permian-Triassic extinction event and a climate perhaps 20 degrees hotter than present global temperatures--been discussed? Or, conversely, the "Snowball Earth" period? Or, more recently, the Altithermal or Holocene Climatic Optimum?

The $500,000 Climate Carny Scam

Because it's a scam, duh. Reminds me of Kent Hovind's $250,000 prize offer for evidence of evolution :birgits_giggle: Steve "the junkman" Milloy is a chronic science denier and former tobacco shill (and, naturally, fox news 'expert'). You can't take the $hit he does seriously

Yes to all 3

The only reference to this being a scam I can find is you and one persons blog.

Submit your proof and see what happens.

according to?

seems like a pretty broad claim.

For example, according to George W. Bush, "The 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments have significantly reduced air pollution, especially through the innovative “cap-and trade” acid rain control program. [It] has been a resounding success, cutting annual sulfur dioxide emissions in the first phase by 50 percent below allowed levels. Emissions were reduced faster than required, and at far less cost”¦The program only requires a handful of EPA employees to operate."
