'15 JuCo DT David "DJ" Jones

I am hopeful DJ is a loyal guy that sees what is coming together on the hill. He walks in and starts. At Bama he gets in the rotation possibly. Will see how it plays out.

I'm not meaning to direct this solely at you, but, as UT football fans, should we really stress or emphasize loyalty towards a recruit?

I mean, how can we bring up loyalty in the hopes that a prospect, DJ Jones for example, will sign with UT because UT has stuck with his recruitment for a long period of time? Especially considering the UT football team doesn't show the same level of loyalty in their recruitment of players as UT fans expect recruits to show UT's team.

College football is a business. It is cut-throat. Especially the SEC. Dirty deals will be made, promises will be broken, and feelings will be hurt. That is part of it. A program doesn't win games by being nice, loyal, and honest.

DJ Jones doesn't owe the UT football program a commitment just because they've recruited him longer than other schools. He doesn't owe them anything. With that being said, UT doesn't owe Jerome Dews a spot on the football team. It's college football. It is a fluid business. Things change and other opportunities open up.

UT football fans that have been calling for better, more successful seasons might as well go ahead and prepare for more broken promises and constant change in the program in the future. Winning programs don't play by the boy scout code of conduct.

The intensity of your remark does not reflect the general nature of mine. It is DJ that brought up the loyalty angle - not me. Go after him.

It sounds like a personal issue to you in light of your perception of the Dews recruitment and possibly others. Not my intent. My intent in general is that not all that glitters is gold with Saban and whoever else may chase him. UT and Butch have wanted him for a couple of years now and still want him. UT was attractive to DJ a couple of years ago and it should still be attractive to him today, especially with the depth chart being what it is. That's all.

When it comes to JUCO DTs, there are no promises, there are no rules. It is the Vietnam of recruiting.

I got that and he did say, "they would basically sign a full class". As I mentioned above, IF they sign all the spots they have(be it 18,20,23, or 26) they did sign a "full class".

By the way, another thing Ainge said this morning was that almost half of the recruiting class for 2015 would be EEs. And then he said there were 12 EEs. TIFWIW

I thought I read something about EEs not counting against the total 25 or something. Some kind of a loop hole...

With having no back count spots, I don't think taking over 24 is even possible.

Butch Jones says don't doubt me. Seriously, we can sign a full 25 within the rules, unless Swafford has to be a counter this class. Plus, Butch might be able to convince a couple of high 3 stars or low 4 stars to be preferred walk-ons.

They don't count if you have spots where you can back count. Like when CBJ only took 21 in 2013. Then Jabo and maybe another or so did not make it in. You can then back count those spots which count toward the last class and not the "25" for this class. With UT filling every possible spot they had last year signing 32, I don't think they can back count anything this year.

That's where players leaving would open scholarships, right? And with EEs we could conceivably sign up to 37? (25 + 12 EEs)

No. 25 max. EEs can count toward the previous class. The previous class was maxed out. Besides, its not how many we can sign due to the yearly limit. We are limited this year by the 85 scholarship limit

We already back counted all of our available numbers last year. We can EE as many as we graduate, which is looking like 12 at the moment. Those 12 are included in 25 max since we are unable to back count any.

I appreciate the attention and you choosing to quote my comment to the post discussing the same thing. I have gotten use to the spotlight. Let it shine, let it shine.

Well you just seem to harp on the numbers issue ad nauseam. Is it possible that you could just stop worrying about it and let Butch and Co. do their jobs? We are recruiting brilliantly right now, just let it be.

Actually...

We had 13 EEs and signed 34 so we should be able to still back count 4 since we took 21 towards the last class.

Unless I don't understand the rules completely.

I guess it would also depend on how many of the 13 we were able to back count.

That's only if all 13 EEs counted towards the '13 class. I'm pretty sure we signed more than 12 in '13.
