I still don't understand the argument as to why two exhibition games are not "cupcake" games. Play the two exhibition games and what does it matter who the next opponent is? You won't have to worry about this coach scheduling cupcakes. He is after a national championship. By the way, this will give the Coach T a chance to scout Michigan State in person before the Orlando Classic. Good deal!

Doesn't matter either way, just wondered if the same posters were gonna question the Vols assistants about this game as well.

Nope...not going to question at all. I already have 1000% more confidence in this staff vs the last and we haven't rolled the first ball out yet. When our coach tells us that he didn't run one offensive play during the exhibition games, then hell yeah, maybe we should have played a cupcake or 2 before Xavier. Obviously, the last staff never figured out how to get a team prepared for the beginning of the season. Not even seeing CDT prepare a team for a season, I'm much more confident that we will be better prepared for a game such as VCU this year.

Change your way of thinking. It will be a bad thing that Michigan State will get to see Tennessee before anyone else.

It will be a fun season. I don't expect us to beat MSU anyway, but maybe we can play with them.
Here's the X-factor. No team we play will have seen the defense we throw at them. It is unique in its own right and they will not have played another team with this type of defense. Coach T has modified it to make it difficult to tell if we are playing man-to-man or zone. That leads to mistakes. I would not make the statement that we can not beat anybody. That's how different it is. Good defense beats good offense. Always has, always will!

VCU should be interesting, especially with no established pg. New coach and new team going against Smart and his uptempo system that he has been running awhile.
I look forward to it.

Speaking of things we haven't seen....

Best example I can give is the high scoring teams that have gone up against SEC defenses in the national championship football games. Sort of humiliating for them!

Uconns 3 guard offense carried them to last year's title over a strong defensive team that held us to 49 pts avg in 3 games.

When I say something, I can usually back it up statistically. Going to basketball and last years final rankings. 10 of the top 25 teams ranked in the top 25 nationally in scoring defense. 13 ranked in the top 50. 18 ranked in the top 100. This is considering that they competed statwise against all 345 Division 1 teams many who played weaker schedules. That offensive juggernaut Connecticut had a scoring defense ranked 31!

Just wanted to drop in here for a bit and leave this for everyone:

Cuonzo Martin sucks as a basketball coach. Later.

Various ways to look at it. Of course you have to play D, but you have to be able to put the ball thru the rim. Fla was good all year on D but scoring points was the problem and they couldn't score in the title game. I'd rather go into the champ game with a team that scores 73 instead of 53. Good defense could be played in both games but you only win one of the two.

This will be a fantastic game to watch and Michigan State against Navy will be interesting as well.

1st Xavier game should've been a double digit win with a half decent gameplan and maybe some film work. Should've run their big man the first 5 minutes of the game and wouldn't have seen him again, or basically what happened the 2nd game.

Or play zone instead of watching Christon beat us off the dribble all night long.
