The main problem I had with scheduling Xavier as the first game last year was the way the team was prepared for more than 6 months leading up to that game. They acted like they were playing a cupcake and could coast. They looked disinterested and nonchalant for most of that game. Just like a number of other games under Martin.

I apologize, but I deleted everything in your post that was made up BS.

There was a whole lot of questioning going on, I actually remember you hounding Mark Pancatz on twitter begging for an explanation as to why we didn't play a cupcake our first game.

The post wasn't a defense of Martin, it wouldn't have mattered if John Doe was the F'n coach, my point was simply...will the same ones who questioned opening against a quality team on the road last year question it this year as well?

This isn't a true road game, so it's really not an apples to apples conversation anyway.

1st Xavier game should've been a double digit win with a half decent gameplan and maybe some film work. Should've run their big man the first 5 minutes of the game and wouldn't have seen him again, or basically what happened the 2nd game.

Did people criticize that we opened against Xavier on the road ahead of time? Or did they just criticize that we looked like a team full of guys that never played together after the game was over?

Keep defending your boy. You probably think Darrin Horn was a fine coach.

This! Thumbs up!!

I didn't have a problem with opening with Xavier last year. I don't have a problem with opening with VCU this year.

Besides, this is all troll bait anyway. Martin and staff scheduled this game with VCU, not Tyndall.

I imagine you are hoping someone takes the bait and praises this opener and talks about what a great scheduler DT and staff are.....

Doesn't matter either way, just wondered if the same posters were gonna question the Vols assistants about this game as well.

This act is so stale.

First, I don't really recall a lot of belly-aching prior to that game about opening with Xavier. Even if there was, there's countless Tennessee fans, and you could find a million different opinions if you are willing to look for them and give them credence by addressing every opinion that differs from your own.

Second, the biggest gripe for most fans about that game is that we had an entire offseason to prepare and we came out looking like we were lost and played with no energy.

Finally, I've seen you gripe more than once about people bashing Martin. Take some of your own advice and stop defending him even when nobody is bashing him.

Wow...I went on sabbatical for a couple of weeks while making a trip to Hawaii.

What happen. This is good news though...especially early in the season to see what we may have or not.

This is one of the reason players will want to come here for the exposure. I see some excellent exposure in these games. Plus, it should help us to get a feel for prep for the SEC schedule....

No Belly Aching here and this is how you build credit. Losing to Texas El-Paso last year was not the best of losses. So there is potential for a down side...Oh, wait< I get it.

So our SOS was top 25?

Depends how you rate the SOS. If you go strictly by opponents W's & L's, then yes. If you go by number of teams you play in the top 100, then no. If you talk about number of teams you play in sub 150, then no.

Since there's 330+ teams in the NCAA, there are only so many ways to rank schedule. Statisticians will tell you that numbers can be manipulated. If Fla lost 2 more games during the season and our schedule was not top 25, would the schedule really be different?

IMO, the schedule was very ordinary. Our non conference games were very average, especially considering where we thought our team should be.

Trying to argue with a Konzo worshiper is futile. They loved the mediocrity that CCM brought to the program sleep walking through the pre SEC season, blaming the fans for not tolerating mediocre performance, dissing the big money people and wondering why they won't loan him their jets as he drums up recruits for other programs. Even after he pulls a Kiffin they still sheepishly support him.

Get ready for the Konzo Koolaid drinkers to start lobbing hand grenades at Donnie Knoxville during the season. It's best to ignore them or you will be in futile pillow fights the whole year.

You're right. The arguing is futile and floods the board with meaningless blather when most want some real information. If you think this is bad, go to the football recruiting threads and take a look. Nature of the beast, I guess.

There was zero hate towards Zo or last years team in this thread. BTO took something that had zero to do with CCM and made it about him.

Changing the subject to the magnitude of this exposure. Here is Tom Izzo's take: ""I've been fortunate enough to play in some amazing venues and be part of some great events, but the one thing I've always felt was missing was the chance to play at one of our service academies," Spartans coach Tom Izzo said. "I'm excited to expose my team to the realities of life at the Naval Academy. ... We are honored to take part in an event honoring our Veterans, and to be playing at a place that has produced some of our country's great leaders. And for me, I'm glad to have another opportunity to coach against my friend Ed DeChellis, a coach for whom I have the utmost respect. "

Any thread with him in it you can expect some arguing going on.

My guess is that in 8 years he never competed for the Big 10 Championship and they decided to release him.

Thank you for providing some relevant information in the midst of another pisstorm..

I'm not sure of the relevance?

Wouldn't you be further proving my point? If people critcized it last year then with less experience they would surely criticize it this year?

i looked back through the gameday xavier thread and the threads discussing the schedule release and no one was criticizing it. Tennesseefan said he wish we played later in the season bc it would be a truer test of where both teams are.
