I think a lot of people feel TG would not win a lot of games as the QB at Tennessee. Obviously in part to the negatives they point out. Maybe right, maybe wrong, but it's impossible to say 1 way or the other for sure. When other QBs are considered much better passers and serviceable runners IMO those kids would make more sense in our offense. Track star speed is just not something you have to have to be a good QB in college. Passing ability IMO is much more important.

I dunno, we've had Kelly,Shuler,Manning, and Martin. They've all shown to be elite passers and only one has a glass football. Disrupting the line of scrimmage from the qb position seems to be more fruitful.

Oh and Bray and Ainge weren't too shabby themselves.

They run a lot of the exact same plays. A lot of screens and crossing routes. So Mariota is smart when he does it, but Gibson is just taking advantage of the system? You're comparing their differences as of right now. The only difference I see is 3 yrs of college coaching.

Mariota is completing lots of deep crossing patterns to tight ends 25 yards down field and throws all the way across the field. I didn't see much of that in Gibson film. Marriota also completes a lot of short screens and short crossing routes for sure, but Gibson doesn't look at all polished to me, even for a hs QB, and Marriota is one of the more polished ones out there, IMO.

Couple things, how do you know Gibson won't become a better passer than Mariota? Check Gibsons stats, he throws the deep ball very well. Also would it matter if he wasn't polished if he comes here and wins games? What if he put up stats like Nick Marshall did last year and won 8-11 games per year for 2 or 3 years?

I'm not really sure what the cause for concern is with TG. He would be pretty much guaranteed to sit behind Dobbs/whoever for at least a year anyway. Worst case scenario if he is literally unable to complete a pass in any form or fashion we just use his elite athleticism to do exactly what Auburn did last year and run the option on every play. They ran their way to the national championship and were 13 seconds from winning it all so I'd say there are worse things out there.

Lol I think you could say that about every single high school football player. No, it would not matter how polished any HS player is if he wins us 11 games a year.

You keep asking the same question and I don't think your getting the answer your looking for because it does not make a lot of sense. Of course people would deal with TG's "negatives" if they knew he would step on campus and lead the team to 9-10 wins. It's impossible to know if he could or not. Much the same way your sold on him walking in the door and being dominate, others think his "negatives" would keep him from being successful. Your willing to roll the dice and HOPE he progresses and wins 8-11 games. Others are not.

I have no doubt if TG commits to Tennessee the Booms will be plentiful. I'll be right there along with everyone else happy the 2015 class has another kid who wants to be a Vol. I don't see him as a great option seeing as Jennings is already onboard. If CBJ takes him, He's a Vol and will have my support.

You may be on to something here my friend. I just went back and watched Mariota's HS junior highlight tape and I must say that it actually reminded me of Gibson's tape quite a bit. They both looked fast as hell and ultra athletic, although I would give Gibson a slight edge in athleticism. Mariota also looked a little rough around the edges as far as a passer just the same as TG. Mariota held the ball down around his chest and his release seemed a little slow and just kinda funky. Most of the passes were deep balls, screens and dump-offs, although he did have a couple of nice seam routes. Certainly not the polished QB that I have seen at Oregon the past few years. Also, he was doing this in Hawaii, which actually has some decent football due in large part to the Samoan population, but still doesn't compare to FLA HS football. IMO, anyone who doesn't want T. Gibson is absolutely nutso.

Also, I understand that a highlight tape isn't going to show you everything, especially the bad plays, but it can still give you some idea. Here is the link to Mariota's tape if anyone's interested...

Gibson is an athlete that will draw the attention of the entire defense which will make it easier for him to get single coverage with our WRU. I'll take that matchup single coverage every day of the week. Our receivers will make a decent QB look very good, but you insert a QB that has legit 4.4 speed and the ability to really make people miss.. man, watch out.

Not saying I prefer one of these guys over the other, it's a good group of talented individuals. We're going to get one of them in the end, and we still don't really know how Jennings will unfold. For all we know he goes and shows out this year.

How about when he misses the pass? I dont see this kid putting his ego aside to put in the work.

Based on what evidence lol? The kid is a junior in high school. I mean, I understand that his late antics are cause for a little concern, but saying that he won't put his ego aside or work for it is a little much don't you think?

The pass at 2:10 that's the kind that shows accuracy. 20 yards on a crossing pattern into a small window.

I just watched two Gibson highlight reels and don't see one pass where the WR wasn't running under it, which is where you have to be the least accurate.

I'm not saying TG has an accuracy problem. I'm saying those assuming he's an elite QB and comparing him to a very accurate Marriotta are being a little generous to TG.

I'll boom with everyone if we get him, rare athlete. Just not sold that he's going to be a QB in a passing based offense.

Exactly. Plenty, if not the vast majority, of major big time college football players have ego problems. Not really their fault either, it just comes along with being both a physical freak and playing the most popular sport.

Id take a michael vick just as quick as I would a Peyton Manning. If you can win, you can win. Its that simple.

Yeah that was the seam route I was referring to and based on the two high school tapes, I would give Mariota the edge as a passer. Anticipation is something that is very hard to teach. I still think TG could be a star at QB, especially at UT given the WRs he will get to throw the ball to.

Gibsons intangibles cant be taught. He has shown the ability to throw the deep ball even on the first throw in his highlights. He has till his junior yr before we would absolutely need him. Plenty of time to develop.

We got our DT "Mike Vick" QB in this class in Jennings. I'm cool with that. Now let's find the Pro Style "Peyton Manning" for that 2nd spot. JMO

Whats funny is ur criticizing him for hitting guys in stride with good placement of the ball and thats exactly what ur taught and is a tell-tale sign of arm talent.

I keep asking the question because guys like you refuse to answer it. You go to great lengths to discredit this kids abilities. I have never said he is going to come in right away, I feel the exact opposite.

I have said multiple times that any QB we get is likely going to RS. That would just help Gibson. That would give him his senior year and another year at the collegiate level to improve his game. It's almost like because of his junior stats, he cannot become a great passer. That's absolutely ridiculous.

There is no more question surrounding Gibsons potential success than any other QBs we are recruiting. You are HOPING that Jennings or Williams is going to be good. You are also HOPING that we land a stud QB in 2016. If CBJ decides to stop recruiting Gibson and decides to go another way, then I am perfectly fine with that.

Jennings is not as athletic as vick but thats beside the point. You dont have to go after one type of QB just because u already have the other. They dont play RB
