SEC changes basketball scheduling format to 3-2-8

Mathematically I think it's doable. Imagine a clock with 14 positions instead of 12. Every team plays the 2 teams adjacent to it and the team directly opposite. How to do that in the real works is a little trickier. I bet each old East team gets 2 old East teams as rivals and one old West team and the exact opposite for the old West teams.

You're right. The clock analogy was easier than trying to figure out with team names.

Shouldn't we be getting an extra home game against UK since we only played them once last season at Rupp? Or is this going to be overlooked?

Somehow I think we end up getting Auburn as one of the 3 permanents. Just got a weird karma vibe.......

Strangely this is the matchup I am keeping my fingers crossed for. Auburn is an old football rivalry so there is some history. But UT playing Pearl twice a year has to be financially good for the SEC network.

If they wait one year to implement it (2015-2016 season) then the old 1-4-8 model will have played through exactly 1 time for everyone so all should be even as far as home and away goes.

Besides Alabama what game could auburn possibly hype and really draw intrigue for? That's a great point you bring up, and wouldn't be surprising in the least to see that happen.

I'm sure Auburn vs UK gets floated about. Pearl vs Calipari 2 times a year would be good for TV.

South Carolina( geography) or Bama( one of the three will be each school's annual football opponent from other division) will be added to Vandy and I assume UK.

It will be interesting to see how this new schedule shakes out for the whole league.

Florida's AD Foley said he expects Tennessee to be one of their permanent rivals in new format.

Wow. The sports gods must really not like us. First we get Bama as our permanent football rival from the West to go along with our east slate and now we get UK and FL as our permanents in basketball. Well, one thing is for sure...if we can beat our permanents on a regular basis, we should be highly ranked and in the midst of things. :loco:

Bama as the permanent Rival in football is a good thing. So is playing UK twice a year in basketball.
