Riley Ferguson appears to be gone

Honestly, none of this really disqualified him from being a great QB. Most great ones are prima donnas that their team to one extent or another tolerate because they can win.

I'd rather deal with a team guy too. You'd rather believe that a guy comes with the total package of being an "alpha male" while still being a "team guy". But that's a pretty difficult balance. I doubt anyone would have cared about the things you cite if Ferguson had done the things necessary to take the job.

You have got to have that fighter jock mentality to compete and win in this league and you have to have self confidence. The art is mixing this mentality with being a great team player.

Dobbs will be harder to pass than you seem to think. The only thing really missing from his game last year besides experience was arm strength. He seems to be resolving that with hard work.

This makes me nervous because arm strength is for the most part a God-given quality.

It's like saying such and such pitcher is gonna be great when he adds 10 mph to his fastball.

You guys need to check out the post Ainge posted on his website about the REAL reason Riley left. Its a good read and explains alot. Basically hes a Tyler Bray all over again :(

I just read that and if true, he needed to go. At this stage of the rebuilding process, there is no room for the elitist/entitled attidudes.

Yeah, but you thought that for other reasons. Apparently, in practice he appeared to be the best option.

I thought that because of football reasons depth charts and what coaches said. I was right. If he was urge best one in practice he wouldn't be leaving. He is turnover prone and had been all spring.

Yeah...those 3 touchdowns in the O/W game sucked, right?
Pffffftttttt. :loco:

Isn't that the game where UT's offense plays against its own defense... that ranked 11th in the SEC last year?

The guy may very well be much improved, but Spring games against one's own struggling defense, where the QB can't get hit in the mouth, probably isn't the best way to arrive at that conclusion or make that judgment.

Spring games mean absolutely nothing. They are a scripted spectacle meant to fire up the fans. Nothing more.

and also, our defense is HORRIBLE. I'm pretty sure I could come close to getting 3 TDs against them.

Didn't mean to come across like an ass, like I think I did upon re-reading. Apologies. But I just don't see Dobbs redshirting under any circumstance this year. Partly because we need him as either a reliable backup or the eventual starter. Secondly, for potential recruiting issues. I think RS freshman Ferguson leaving the program makes enticing a top ranked freshman QB (or 2) to join the '15 an easier proposition now.

No worried dude... VolNation is in a stressful state over the last few months. And I tend to agree with you... We are gonna need both Worley and Dobbs both this year.

Butch Jones would not be the coach I think he is if he patted him on the back and said "It's ok Riley, we don't care about the perception this gives to the rest of the team. You're so swell and special!"

Agree, which is why I think RF is done, or at least he comes back with significant consequences, if at all.

Never said he was the answer. I was commenting on how Riley was not on the same page as the rest of the QBs, who work together to improve.

I hear ya, I'm just saying being a swell guy doesn't win football games or move the football up and down the field. Tyler Bray was a complete jackass, but by Golly the dude could move the ball and score points.

I'd take Tyler Bray over Peterman 100% of the time.

Unless you have something specific to base this speculation on you really shouldn't do it.

The only thing we know about things left unsaid... is that they haven't been said. Could be a case of not wanting to say something "not nice"... but Jones has said some things that weren't exactly "nice". Or, it could just be that the opportunity to say that he's a hard worker never came up in the right context.

No one should attack any of these kids
.

... and the congregation said AMEN.

I guess I am a little different. I would love to have had Tyler Bray on the team with a redshirt year and a second year to be developed behind a mature role model like Worley. Bray was an elite talent that was given the reigns too early and wasn't ready for the leadership portion of being a QB. Had he been brought along slower his legacy would have been much different. Ferguson not taking advantage of this opportunity is on him.

The difference is that Bray still threw for about a million touchdowns and at least got an opportunity (albeit from the previous staff) to get into a game. This guy didn't even get that far.

I am a 36 year old white man. Married with kids and have a steady well paying white collar job.

My cousin, who is my same age and grew up in the exact same middle class socio-economic environment is worlds different from me. He isnt married, does not have a high school deploma, has gold teeth and chains. Still wears NBA jerseys as a part of his normal wardrobe (like at a wedding and not just when he watches games), listens to hip hop like he was 18 years old.

I'd like to think he was just pretending to be cool and that he would one day change, but in reality he's been doing it for more than 20 years. It's just who he is and who he wants to be. If he wanted to change he could very easily do it.

Point is, life is about the choices we make, not what color our skin is or that our skin dictates how we are supposed to act. Everyone has an equal opportunity to be an @sshole or choose the right path.

I for one cant stand how my cousin acts and how he looks, but I still love him and I dont think that he needs to act "white". I think that he needs to act like what I think a 36 year old should act like.

Same goes for Ferguson. If you are going to act like that, then the consequence is that you dont get to be a big time college QB for UT.

I couldn't agree with you more!!!! I could care less if someone is white, black, asian, hispanic but it really annoys me to see grown adults still act like they're 16 years old. At some point a person needs to look in the mirror and realize some of their life choices really aren't working out for them. Most people tend to blame other people for their failures and usually that's where the problem starts

I get that but had Simms been the answer I think Bray would have been better. I haven't seen a QB on the team that gets your attention with his throws like Bray did (and I am not talking about beer bottles).

Don't think Dobbs was even going against the ones as Ferguson and Worley were from what I read. Wasn't able to make this one.

Bray was cancer... Do not want.... Ever!!!!!

Is he that emotionally unstable? He gets pissed, throws a fit and leaves a promising career behind, and generally shows his ass. Then, he turns around and cools off a few days later, says it was all a big mistake and begs for forgiveness?

If that happens, it seems like he needs to be laying on a couch somewhere instead of playing football.

Seems likely... I remember when it was reported that he pitched a tantrum when he wasn't on the travel roster to Florida. He ended up getting his way and Dobbs stayed home. I read Ainge's report and tend to agree that RF felt entitled to a lot without putting in the work.

There is a catch though. Riley isn't Bray; Bray had the tools to start as a true freshman.
