I think you want to give Dobbs as much practice with Malone, North, Hurd, Pig, etc.. as possible. This year could be rocky with the Oline, but we'll be way ahead of the rest of the East in 2015 if we work through those growing pains. I think Worley is the best QB to start 2014, but I don't think Dobbs is too far behind him. I really have no idea what Ferg is capable of (and I don't think anyone else does either), but I think if we stick with Dobbs and let him gel with all the talent around him, we'll get a solid 2015 and 2016 out of him, while hopefully landing a top QB recruit by 2015.
It seems as if we've had a lot of "qb competitions" over the last 10 years, and I think it's time we stick with one guy. The UGA's, USC's, and Bama's have had 3 and 4 year starters back to back to back and that's ultimately why they've been way ahead of us as a whole.
Edit: the reason I'm hesitant to RS Dobbs is because if we play Ferg behind our inexperienced Oline and have the same kind of results as 2013, we'll go into 2015 with all the same question marks as 2014. I'd prefer to just gamble on Dobbs and pray like hell that he's the man!
To be fair, there were several dropped passes against USCjr. last year that should have been caught. One drop that I immediately think back on involved either Blanc or Smith that would have been for a huge gain and put us at the goal-line.
However, I'll cringe as well if Worley has not improved
I am a self-professed cautious optimist. I think Worley is going to win the starting job and I think he is going to have a good season this year. The hands of North and VP, the speed/power combo of Hurd, and the deceptive speed of Malone are going to make his job much easier this year. (As long as the oline is decent.)
Also the TE's will be big this year IMO. They were not really a weapon last year. All that size and speed on the outside will have TE's running wide open over the middle a lot IMO.

#2 is still up for grabs.
Dobbs had a rough spring other than the O&W game. Fumbling problems and inconsistency issues.
Riley had the better overall spring but had a bad showing at the O&W game.
The coaches will look at the entire body of work and not just the O&W game.
I am of the minority that thinks Dobbs will redshirt. I think Worley starts and Ferguson gets garbage time reps. Thatll give Dobbs an extra year of eligibility. Thatll build future depth. Worley will be gone after this season and Peterman will likely transfer out after the season. Thatll leave Dobbs, Ferguson and the incoming freshmen
Actually, the starting position is still up for grabs. That's what Butch Jones says, and we have no reason to doubt he's telling the truth. I'm sure he would have preferred to pick one QB to get all of the first team practice reps in August, but unfortunately he's prolonging the QB competition because he still isn't sure which guy gives us the best chance to win. I'm taking Butch on his word on this one, and, personally, I think the competition has narrowed to Worley and Dobbs.
Riley Ferguson was making plenty of freshman mistakes before the Orange and White game. In one scrimmage, he "threw the ball up for grabs off his back foot" on first down in an overtime scenario where his team was down by 3 points, and his pass was intercepted to end the practice. In a later scrimmage, he ran out of bounds in a "last play of the game" scenario from the opponent's 18 yard line rather than throw the ball into the endzone. There were also other reports of interceptions and inconsistency throughout the Spring. Again, this was all before he had 3 sacks and 2 turnovers against the 2nd-team defense in the O&W game.
We hear rumors that Ferguson has the best arm of the four QBs, but the fact remains that Dobbs is bigger, faster, smarter, and far more experienced than Ferguson. If something happens to Worley and we need to win an SEC game in 2014, Jones would be crazy to gamble with Ferguson over Dobbs. So, while I believe Butch Jones that there's still a legitimate competition for the #1 spot, I think whoever loses the battle between Worley and Dobbs gets the backup job. Ferguson still has far too much ground to make up with those two and not enough game-time situations to do it before the season starts.
Josh Dobbs will not redshirt this year just to gain a hypothetical extra year of eligibility in 2017. If Butch Jones doesn't start winning immediately, he might not be around in 2017. Dobbs showed in the Orange and White game how explosive our offense could be with him this year, but, even if he doesn't win the starting job outright in August, redshirting him would leave us way too thin at QB. 2017 is a VERY long way time away, and we'll still have Ferguson and several highly-decorated 2015 or 2016 QB recruits to choose from at that time.
