if this kid likes the flash and pizazz of big time cfb teams, osu and tn. hes really gonna love playing in the biggest and most important football game of all time. (until they do another one), at battle of breestuhl.

I'm curious to see if he can complete passes at a much higher %. I quote Bill Polian from the draft this year, "You can't teach accuracy". "Either a QB has it or he does not".

Now listen Leb..."Peyton had a 59% completion rate as a senior in high school" soooooo?

I'm just quoting what the man said. :dunno:

That (4 out of 10) 247 rates Gibson on accuracy just really sticks out to me. Not something you would usually see on a top level QB.

I would be happy with a Nick Marshall type (who is faster than Marshall mind you). His accuracy is not awful, it's honestly about how Dobbs and Worley were last season. I would try to take him regardless and switch him if it doesn't work out, but give him a true shot at QB.

As some have said Gibson's completion % was helped quite a bit by throwing a lot of screens not so much passes down the field. That is something I did not see much of from UT QBs last year. I would like to see CMB calling more screen plays this year.

As or the QB description you gave above, it kind of sounds like Jennings to me. We already have that guy onboard.

Most of the highlights I saw show TG throwing the ball down field pretty well. Maybe the highlight reel that I saw was geared to show off his arm strength, but I didn't see many screens.

Even if UT uses screens for TG in their plan, I would feel great about who is getting those screens. A lot of talent out there.

I think Polian is wrong. Accuracy requires a lot of practice at it. I'm sure if you threw a hundred footballs; you'd get more accurate by #100.

Note the quotation marks...ref to argument earlier in thread comparing TG to Peyton...I disagreed :)

Kid had a decent career. He can't help it if people like him. He should actually enjoy it. Seems like he has. Those two Alabama games were legit, while LSU corralled him a bit. He may or may not be a huge NFL success, but he was superb in college.

Needless to say he wasn't the first and won't be the last dynamic QB to have Chavis and the Swamp Beasts take a giant dump on his game. But Chavis is arguably the best DC in the country, so I can excuse those games in light of how he fared against Alabama and some others.

So how do you think TG compares to Taj Boyd, for those who can remember what he looked like when he was our recruit. And would you take that if that was his ceiling?

If you forget his history of atrocious games against Florida both under Spurrier and Meyer.

Or are you crowning him the best DC in the country only when he has a pipeline of highly talented players?

TG is bigger and faster.

Honestly TG compares physically more to Vince Young, IMO. VY was 1" taller and .1 faster in the 40 than TG but the 2 have similarities in what they bring to the table.

I heard TG's interview with Swain and he sounds like he has his head screwed on right.

Also, we'll just forget about James Banks.

Thats who I would compare him too Vince Young is a great comparison.

That's why I threw in the interview with Swain.

Unlike VY, TG seems to be very level-headed. It's just an interview and of course that doesn't convey much but he really did seem to be approaching his position as a top national recruit well and he focused on people criticizing his throwing motion/accuracy a bit.

Kid seemed to have some fire in him and seemed mature.. which VY never really was.

You also can't argue against his stats in one of the most competitive HS FB divisions in the nation, though.

I think TG could have Brad Smith like production when he was at mizzou. Seem to have similar games. Add that with our weapons and the defense we'll have in a couple of years and it's a nice combination.

Actually I would rather the staff roll with just Jennings at QB for 2015. If I had to pick between Gentry and Gibson, yeah I'd choose Gentry. He looks the part of a QB much more than an athlete lining up at QB IMO. There is very little to support that Gibson is a more talented QB and that he has a higher ceiling. I doubt most would be shocked if he is playing WR within a year of getting to college. The "competition" talk is worthless to me. All a kid can do is play the kids lined up across from him. If you buy into the "competition" BS than no kid playing outside of ga, fl, ca, and tx would be a take. Maybe if news breaks that Gentry had been moved to TE at a couple camps because he was a train wreck throwing the ball, maybe I start to think Gibson would be a comparable option.

I'm pretty certain I heard Doug Matthews say Jennings was not recruited as a QB and that the coaches were doing their best to bring in 2 highly rated QBs in the 2015 class (easier said than done). Either way, with Gentry off the board, Torrance Gibson appears to be the clear cut #1 QB target.

I respect Coach Matthews but I just can't see us bringing in two more qb's in this class. Jennings may never take a snap at qb but it's clear he's no scrub plus we took Stephen Griffin's commitment, another tall safety, and continue to recruit Rico Mcgraw. I'd like to take one more qb max, hopefully Gibson, and not scare off every '16 qb in the country
