Jarnell Stokes projected in first round per Chad Ford

Big Baby and Sullinger both have much more range than Stokes, and Blair is a better athlete. Stokes has to develop a jumper or he'll be out of the league in a few years.

Stokes will have to develop a jump shot. His biggest liability is that he has short arms. He dominated in college because of his strength. Unfortunately in the NBA there are a lot of strong players. He will have to rely on position to rebound. I am so glad he is a Vol, but I believe he will struggle in the NBA. I hope I am wrong, but he often struggled against length.

If you're short, unathletic AND bad at shooting for your position, you're not going to last in the NBA. There's only one of those things Stokes can fix.

He did really well against length vs UK. 20-15 iirc.

Yep. Will be interesting to see what he does against 4's in the nba.

I think he may make a roster, but I am afraid he will end up overseas. I really hope I am wrong. He is very strong. Reminds me of Paul Silas, but Silas did not play against the same type of athletes as play in the NBA today. Plus Silas could shoot a little.

Oh he'll make a roster. I just hope he has a chance to show himself and not get buried on a roster.

Maybe I am just too negative, but I think on draft day some will stay away because of his size and lack of jump shot. I do hope he succeeds in the league.

I am gone. Long day tomorrow.

Someone will take him. He has potential if he works hard.

Good video here. Hope Jarnell is making us wonder where those handles and that jump shot were 2 or 3 years from now when he's contributing to a winning team in the NBA.

That video sure makes it seem like he was held back and limited on what he could do at Tennessee by the previous staff. He said getting back to the stuff I was doing in high school. Does this come as a surprise to anyone!

Cuonzo has said that Jarnell has a good jumper but that wasn't what he was asked to do. He was needed as a banger down low for us and that worked well.

I feel like some are going to be surprised by Jarnell's game. Same thing happened to Tobias.

Not much offensive creativity from the last staff. A lot of moving from block to block with the occasional flash to the high post, but he was never free to roam.

In CCM and co. defense though it was probably better for UT that he stayed close to the paint, but not for JS's offensive development. jmo

I agree, but Tobias is pretty much doing the same thing in the NBA that he did here. Rebounds well for his position and has a terrific offensive game. He was a 15 / 7 guy here and is putting up roughly the same numbers in the NBA. I think he has 20/7 potential a few years down the road.

Stokes should've been setting picks and rolling on clearouts or facing up from day 1 instead of being put on the low block with his back to the basket.

Yeah, but was a few who said bigs would eat Tobias up and he couldn't guard the smaller guys. That small forwards were too athletic for him. Tobias was considered a tweener just like Stokes.

Putting up 15/7 in the NBA is a bit different than college IMO. Just from the competition upgrade and sheer volume of games that you have to sustain said stats.

Basicly saying CCM style of play held him back, but it was ok with him since it helped the team. Seemed unselfish

Tobias Harris has average 10.8 pts and 5.1 rebs for his career of 3 seasons.
This year 14.6 and 7. Main problem has been durability. Missed 20 games this year and he played the most games of his short career this year.
Stokes is strong than Tobias, but Tobias has length (long arms) and much better ball handling skills. I hope I am wrong, but IMO Stokes will have a hard time duplicating Tobias production. If Stokes can average 11 and 7, then he will have a long career.

Oh yeah. But I feel like 7 and 11 is more likely.

I hope he does well, but I have my doubts of how he will play against guys with length. In college he could out-muscle them, but in the league he will not be the strongest on the court.

He will need to adjust to being away from the basket and still being able to crash and rebound. The jumper will need to make an appearance too. But he still might be the strongest on the court in a lot of games. lol jmo

His biggest weakness is something he can do nothing about - short arms. He will have to continue to have great footwork and use his rear end to help him rebound. As I have said earlier, he could have a career similar to Paul Silas. Silas though did not play against as many great athletes, plus during Silas' days the league had big time drug problems. Many players were not year around athletes.

Good point about short arms. He can bench more but that don't keep the pay checks coming in. Nice Paul Silas comparison. JS is bigger(weight wise) but like you said the comp back then was waaay different

And Tobias is still a tweeter. He's a liability at his natural position PF. He's getting better guarding the perimeter. His advantage comes from the mismatches he poses on offense. He can do it all...except shoot threes. He's a niche PF and will play a long time in the NBA. Hope stokes can find a niche.
