Suarez to remain at USM

Does USM not releasing him not limit UTs ability to contact him? Limit access to him?

Yes, to an extent, but you can bet there was 3rd party contact. The staff believed he was gonna ask for his release a 2nd time, and were told it would be granted, he instead opted to stay after the 2nd meeting.

@TheRecruitScoop: JUCO PG Rasham Suarez has decided to remain committed to Southern Miss & play for Doc Sadler instead of going to Tennessee, a source said.

That one hurts bad

Well so much for the PG you thought we would get, who do you think is a viable option?

Here is the difference and where CDT made a mistake.

I have no problem releasing a player. but there was no reason to do it as quickly as he did.

Do we even know whether Suarez was offered a release. and I can just about bet you that Suarez would not be released to UT.

As it stands the four signees were released without even a sit down with the new staff. This didn't happen with the new coach at USM. And UT lost the upper hand.

Austin was better than all these, and now Xavier has him. UT had already invested its time and future on the 4 signees. if you have a sit down face to face with the family and they still want out, fine. But the releases were knee jerk.

I think your point is valid on some recruits. On the other hand I think it's best to go ahead and release them sometimes. I think it depends on the player and their current mindset. If they are really upset with the coaching change, there is no benefit IMO in prolonging their release. Cofer is a prime example. By granting his release early, he remained open to us, agreeing to allow CDT and staff an in home with he and his family, plus he says he will OV here before deciding. I have said previously, and still believe Cofer will be a Vol when all is said and done.

Grad transfer. From what has been stated, a solid player but not spectacular.
A solid PG with good handles, that can penetrate, dish and hit free throws should be sufficient with Detrick, Kevin, Robert and Josh around him. Of course we still need another big (I believe we get Cofer) and another PG (hoping Thompson comes back).

You believe we get Cofer?

Speaking of Twitter, did Suarez ever confirm that he's staying at USM? In other words, how authoritative is this source, anyway? (wishful thinking, but still)
