2014 Georgia Forward Phil Cofer

I'm on mobile so I can't search. If someone else could repost that would be appreciated.

Here's a brief summary:

In first conversation Tyndall came off as knowing very little about Cofer as a player, this took Phil and family by surprise.

In first conversation with family they got the impression Tyndall didn't really care one way or the other if Phil was a Vol

The family was also a bit taken back by Tyndall's use of the word "thug" in his press conference.

There is room for players who want to be VFL. Others need to go where they feel comfortable.

It certainly seems there is something going on here which Coach Tyndall has nothing to do with. There is just too much drama about Martin. He is gone, but it certainly appears he, or someone siding with him, wants to keep things in an uproar.

As far as I am concerned, all those players who want to leave, or those who Martin recruited and have chosen to go elsewhere, are doing us a favor in the long run. We can now get on with players who really want to be Tennessee Volunteers. They are the ones who will give their all when they put on the Orange!

Agree 100 percent with this

Thanks.

First impressions can be the deal maker or breaker. It looks like if the Cofers really bled orange one would think they would have at least given Tyndall the chance by doing an official visit. JMO.

That's the part where people will differ, but I can understand his stance.

The Cofers bleed more orange than you ever will. Born and raised Knoxvillians. Phillip wanted desperately to play here. Tyndall dropped the ball from Day 1.

Bs. Cofer had his mind set on playing for a black coach and stuck with his plan.

If the truth hurts, deflect.

Agreed. If that's want he wants to do, then that's fine. If The Cofer family was offended by the word "thug", then they're just as misguided as their son.

If he wanted to be a Vol, he had every opportunity to be a Vol, blaming it on Tyndall is baseless.

tell us how you really feel Sparty :eek:hmy::p:

I actually have no problem with it and understand why it happens. Denial from some that its not a factor with some decisions made is naive. Turman happened to pick a black coach with an nba history as well. I know his hs coach got a job there but he still signed to play for the hc.
Again, I have zero problem with it. I think it would be great if someone someday actually spoke up and told the truth about it being a factor in sending young black men to college to be led by a successful black man leading a program.

If the word thug bothers them, then they should look elsewhere. Going to FSU with all their Thugs makes perfect sense.

Sounds like Tyndall may have not been too prepared, however, to give him the benefit of the doubt, he has probably had 15 total hours of sleep since he has been our coach. The guy is working tirelessly to salvage a class and a team. I would have loved to seen Phil Cofer in orange, but I have a feeling he never really was that interested in UT once Cuonzo left.

some of you have crossed the line from "butthurt over Cofer leaving" to sounding unbalanced.

it's a factor more often than you know.
He chose to play for 2 coaches at 2 different schools and nothing is similar in their system or styles except both are black.

I have my opinions and you have yours.

Cofer would have fit perfectly in Tyndall's system. I think Sparty is on to something.

It's just an opinion, but too deep or difficult for some to discuss here so it will turn into childish junk.

But if some parents and families didn't base their decisions on color, black colleges wouldn't exist.
And to repeat, I have zero issue with it, but won't be in denial.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but by saying that's what happened here means that he picked 4 random schools with white coaches to cover that?

Just seems unlikely to me, but as you said nothing wrong with differingn opinions.

Well you better get a little deeper, and think about why HBCUs were established. Hint: it's not because black people thought they were too good for white colleges.

Want another fact that'll blow your mind? People of any race can attend HBCUs.

He chose one school and one coach. Who was in the running doesn't matter really. These kids do pro and con sheets and having a black hc can be the difference maker.
