The Petition

You do realize that the petition was nothing more than a cut and paste of an article that Clay Travis wrote didn't you? He's the one that was yelling from the rooftop to rehire Pearl and fired off that column and someone took it and posted it as an online petition. He is a Pearl lover and hated Martin.

I hate Clay Travis and i dont hate a lot of stuff. Basically Clay, Alabama (the state and everything in it) and Brussle sprouts (sp?).

That's about it, oh and the devil.:naughty:

... was the best possible thing that could have happened for UT basketball.

So far it helped yield the following.....

1. A sweet 16 appearance and nearly an Elite 8

2. Cuonzo Martin's departure

3. $1.3 million for Cuonzo to leave

4. Detrick Mostella (the first 4* player we've had since Jordan McRae and Trae Golden)

5. A rejuvenated fan base

6. Me renewing my season tickets

7. Hopefully a better signing class in 3 weeks than Zo recruited over 3 years

Unbelievable.

Whoever started that petition, I've got two words for you....... THANK YOU!!!!

Except for the 5* Stokes and Hubbs and the 'shoulda been' 4* in Richardson you'd be correct. But then, most negavols are off center of accuracy. And the sweet16 comment was a side splitter and I cant afford that right now. Got a heck of an oblique tear. Stop it :lolabove:

Disagree.

While I am happy with what Donnie Tyndall is doing, there is a right way and wrong way to handle things.

The Tennessee fans who signed the petition did the wrong thing.

Martin was going to leave after this season no matter what. He was not happy how contract negotiations went last year and was out of here no matter what.

The petition made UT fans look like hillbilly racists in the eyes of the media and they are pushing that narrative hard.

The right thing was to sit back and let things take their natural course, as all other schools with class do.

Logic 101. There's no way Cuonzo was 'unhappy in Knoxville' or he'd have been looking for an out after year one. There's no way Cuonzo was unhappy or looking for a way out in year 2 or we wouldn't have had the good class coming in. Reality 101. Something happened this year, right after the season, somewhere between signing the 7'1 fella to UT, to leaving for Cal and taking the 7'1 fella with him. And yes, UT fans are the laughingstock of the nation.

The only thing it possibly accomplished is #2. If Bama or one of our rivals had started such a petition, we would have justifiably ridiculed them.

Speaking logically there is alot of evidence that is a good thing and there is no tellingyet if CDT is a good hire or not.

* There were reports out there that Zo left bc he knew his roster coming back was not that strong so he left to restart his coaching clock instead of getting fired.

* Reports out there that candidates wouldnt talk to Tennessee about the coach bc of the poor shape our roster was in.

* Recruiting was subpar and he never had a top 25 class with his last class being ranked in the 40's.

* Rob Lewis reported that he only went after players that he didnt have to fight over and quit recruiting for the last two months he is here.

I dont see why you would want him back and if what Rob Lewis stated is true u should probably not like him at all.

Reports from where? VN posters? Don't think that qualifies as a report. At best, its an unsupported rumor.

Well? Some of you are.

I'd say UT's method of running off Martin was much more embarrassing. Jmo.

You guys hated Tubby AFTER he won a championship for you inbreds...sounds a little more ucked up than a coach leaving because of an internet site? :dunno:

So now we brag because we act like UK fans? No thanks

Well my point is that we didn't...but when you talk to lazy eyed mouth breathers...you gotta broach things slowly...they panic...they end up trying to "marry" you.

Except it wasn't "UT's method".

I don't know a lot of fanbases that have done something like that. I'm young, so maybe you can enlighten me.

I don't think UK fans ever hated Tubby. We still don't. I would imagine most UK fans still like the guy.

You must be very young or never read Catspause during that time frame.

It was daily multi-thread ranting about how much they couldn't take any more "10 loss Tubby" and demanding he be fired.

National perception (which seems very important to you) indicated otherwise

Like you said you're young...your FANBASE has a fun history under Adolph (Hitler was a liberal)Rupp....his famous Runts served notice that black athletes were pretty good in that round ball thing...I'm sure he rolled over in hell when Tubby was hired...needn't have worried...your "hillbilly redneck"constituency wouldn't tolerate such foolishness too long. :yu:

Yeah, people were annoyed at Tubby for being good but not great year after year. But most common fans never hated him. People on forums are some of the most passionate fans, so I don't always view that as a great standard to judge the entire fan base by. Kentucky forums are terrible, every UK poster on VN will agree with me. Some of the biggest emotional homers around.

So now you're turning this into a discussion about Rupp being a racist who would have hated Tubby being hired?

Solid.

Either way Butchna, my point is that the petition wasn't a good thing, never should have happened, and overall was a poor decision by the fanbase. One could argue that it has led to the "success" so far. Like I said, Tyndall is a good coach, I knew that when he was at Morehead. But to use this as a reason for the petition being a good thing is dumb imo.
