Not Going to Have "Thugs"? Wha?

This is like every single day for me and my crew

Not much, just thuggin it out. They are cool. One is taller than CDT, (the 8th grader). The other two are almost there, but they are only 5 & 3 years old, respectively.

You, Sir, are a heightist! Please be a little more respectful to the vertically challenged. Think of how your words affect your three sons' attitudes.
And for those who need it ;>/

There is a distinct difference in the meaning of some words, and the way they are used. Unfortunately, the term Thug has become more associated with black guys in hoodies selling drugs with there jeans hanging down to there thighs. IMO, a good deal of this comes from the way the hip hop community has so strongly imbraced the word. The result of this is the word is used way more often to decribe black people in a negative way, and often times for behavior that does not match the original meaning of the word. It has become code word for unruly black guy. To better illustrate this, try to find the last 10 white guys that have been referred to as thugs in the media.

I agree with this completely. I think it's a lot like how many white men have embraced the term "rebel".

But has anyone proclaimed that calling someone a "rebel" is a racial slur?

It' does not have the same negative connotations as "thug". Redneck would be a much better example.

What is a Jacksonian?

Jacksonian may refer to: Jacksonian Democrats, party faction; Jacksonian democracy, American political philosophy.
I took a class titled 'Jacksonian Democracy' in college; still don't buy it-part Cherokee and not impressed with Jackson. I'm just surprised a dead president was brought up on this thread. ;>/

The media has often used the term "union thugs," and "mob thugs." Are they black or white?

20 years ago they were Italian mobsters.

I was ok with the thug word, but now you gotta go and throw out Jacksonian...?

What is wrong with you man?

Give me an example of a public figure using the term redneck other than a comedian.

I can give you plenty of examples of public figures using the term "thug" well before the black community decided to adopt it.

The term thug essentially means criminal. That's something public figures are expected to talk about. The term redneck refers to uneducated farmers. Which one would expect public figure to speak about more?
