Not Going to Have "Thugs"? Wha?

Justin Beiber a thug? Good night.

He's a wannabe thug just like Marshall Henderson. They're not hard like me and my crew. If you really are a pimp (even if you just dabble in it) you can join my crew, but we don't like Tyndall. tifwiw

Serious question here.

The Richard Sherman incident brought this term to the forefront of the sporting world's consciousness. In fact, Sherman wrote an article about it in the MMQB

Richard Sherman Explains What People Mean When They Call Him A "Thug"

Sherman--and most of the African American community and most of pundents--came to the conclusion that "thug" is the new "n-word."

Now: Is Tyndall a purposeful racist? I don't think so. I don't think most of the people that use "Thug" consider themselves racist. In fact, I know they don't.

Yet, it is mostly considered a racist term by African Americans. So, I'm not sure what to make of that, but it's something I noticed and cringed at when I heard him say it.

Thoughts?

Go Vals!

I cringed when I read this thread. Political correctness is not on my priority list. There are too many other things in life that are far more important. Welcome to my ignore list.

Justin Bieber is a spoiled little ***** boy not a thug. A thug is someone who would rob you, steal from you, or murder you. I don't believe Bieber would capable of these crimes since he is about 5-8 120 lbs.

He sure stole lotsa money from little girls though, selling craptastic albums.

Swain just gave Marshall Henderson the Thug label on TSR. So would that mean it's a racist remark?

Great example. Kid acts like a damn punk and/or thug on the court....we all know the classless behavior like Henderson's when we see it.

We all know what the context of Tyndall's remark was. We also know the agenda and mindset of those who want desperately want to find a racist component in any situation. This is a classic example.

Anyone with common sense understands the context of the comment. However, it was a not a good choice of words. Should have just said that there will be no disciplinary issues instead of using a derogatory label.

it still has absolutely nothing to do with what people on the outside think he meant. The only issue is whether it could hurt him when selling UT basketball to the kids he needs in order to win. He could have made the same point without using a word that caused an uproar just a couple months ago

:lolabove: Join a crew? Negative. Sell you a *****? Anyday of the week.

Tyndall using thug in his first press conference is simply more evidence that the term thug is not racist. No matter how much the Shermanator wants it to be.

It doesn't matter whether it's racist or not. That's not the point. It's about knowing your audience.

The way some on here act, Coach Donnie might as well just have gone ahead and called them the N word.

I don't get why this is so hard to understand. Nobody thinks he's racist. They just think he could have worded it better based on who was listening.
