Fact is CBP was gone as well and not coming back but that did not stop tens of thousands of morons who signed the petition to have personal agenda's about that either. Did you back then also publicly ask those people to remove that personal agenda and stop the nonsense, or joined that petition?

You are absolutely correct, and I don't think enough is made of this. Martin knew he wasn't well supported and saw the hadwriting on the wall. He used the Sweet 16 run to bolt so he wouldn't have to suffer the results of his poor recruiting.

The petition gave him a good excuse for doing it.

Back to where we need to be? Where exactly is that in the histoy of UT hoops? We were pretty much there. Sure, Bruce won a few more regular season games and had the Vols ranked most of the time, but college basketball is about where you finish. The Vols were on the verge of an Elite 8 appearance which has only happened 1 time in the history of this program.

Another way to look at it, who had the better season...UK or Wichita St? To me it's UK, but others will say Wichita St.

I think he'll have some success in the SEC, but as for pearl like national exposure and energy... Well... Maybe that lightning in a bottle just strikes once. I doubt even pearl will be able to come close to replicating it at auburn.

Unless Pearl has a Chris Lofton, JJ Smith, and CJ Watson suiting up for him at Auburn next season, I'm reasonably sure he is not going to go in there and take the SEC by storm.

A few quick points that this early on have made me quickly grow on Tyndel:

- I liked the HAT motto that he would make a culture of with theam.

-Love the fact that he will play up tempo early on this gives us a chance to upset so people that have us completely out matched. (see pearls defensive scheme) first 2 years.

-Lastly we are back to an eccentric, genuine, charismatic guy leading our program and very crucial at this time promote it!:clapping:

Obviously recruiting this year is going to be near to impossible but lets see what he can do and more importantly what he can do with a dwindeld roster as far as motivation and development. That will give us a bigger insight on what he will be able to do down the road than anything.

Good post. One thing I think will help us out as far as recruiting is, he likes to go after Juco guys. Those guys can help us out, especially this year. I know Juco is not as important in BBall as in football. Let's get behind Coach T and GBO.

That's not what he said. He said we'd push the offensive tempo on long rebounds and under other similar circumstances. Like others have said, he doesn't run an uptempo offense.

One thing Donnie did say is that he's going to be who he is and not change with this job. And the stats and film say that he doesn't push the pace on offense.

watch the first 4 minutes of the Usm at mizzou game and they push it up the court on several possessions after rebounding the ball. They also of course press after made baskets. Whether it's called uptempo or not, they aren't a team that relies solely on halfcourt O. They'll push and if they get nothing, will back it out and send picks to the pg

It's a razor thin wire between being on the verge of being in the Elite Eight and being out of the tournament a third straight season for some coaches.

The regular season does actually mean something.

I don't know where you got that impression. His offense is one of the most efficient in the NCAA. Those figures were posted on the is board last week. Lets not start posting made up figures and give this guy a chance. It is time for the complainers to shut it down for a while. Now wonder our athletic programs are where they are/were. It you continue to post inaccurate data, you have an agenda which does not support the University of Tennessee.

Not as much as college football. The regular means something to the extent of getting you to the tournament. Who do you think had the better season, UK or Wichita St.?

I can make the argument that the seeding (after the 1st round) doesn't really matter that much. Just get there and play the game. The only advantage the higher seed gets (if you can even call it an advantage) is they get to wear their home unis.

The Dooley supporters hung around forever.

Appears the Martin supporters will as well.

More than a few appropriate analogies between the two coaches but another common theme was neither appeared capable of cutting it at UT in their short tenures and there are segments of the fan base that insist that repeated mediocrity and failure is better than change.

UK had the better season.

UK also didn't have to base their post season run on the good graces of the selection committee and a play in game like UT did either.

Yeah. Doesn't matter to me either way what style of offense we play. I prefer half-court because I think teams that can execute in the half court are more suited for tournament success. But I don't mind uptempo either, as long as it doesn't lead to shooting ill-advised threes from guys that shoot 30% (which our team is full of) and excessive turnovers.

I agree on the issue of seeding. But Tennessee fans know how important the regular season is in that if it’s mediocre, which it has been the last 3 seasons, you stand a good chance of earning a seed in the NIT, not the big dance.

As such, the season matters very much. An argument could be made for the importance of conference tournaments, but the regular season matters!

Exactly what I think. A couple of mediocre yrs unless he really gets some ace recruits in the next month, but in the long haul, we should be in good hands. I think by CCM leaving, we are a year ahead of where we'd be, because I think after next year, he would have been fired.
