It concerns me more we are going after High School coaches

I promise you this, the quality of coaches at the high school level is not far behind college coaches at all.

Think about it. To coach high school, 95% of those coaching have been trained to be teachers and its not like it used to be where a coach could just read the paper until 3:30, then go to practice.

So, they typically have the ability to teach, are smart enough to earn a degree and have access to clinics and other resources to develop schemes. They also hold coveted positions that are more secure than any college job.

If this is his best friend and he is a high school coach developing talent at that level and who has his ear to the ground at the grassroots level of the talent pool I would say this guy is more valuable to Tennessee right where he is at.

Wortman, who was on Tyndall’s staff at Morehead State from 2006-09, said he has decided that Blackman is currently the best place for him.

He was on his staff at Morehead State. :eek:lol: They are close and probably wanted to see if he was ready to get back in the college game. I use to have a position that I worked 70+hours a week to a 50/hr/week job and love it. Can't blame Tyndall for asking or Blackman for passing on it. Besides.....you make it sound like this guy has only coached in high school with that post :birgits_giggle:

Wortman has been between Lebanon and Murfreesboro for a long time. He loves hs ball and has a good life and is at home there. Great guy. And exactly what I talk about when I mention coaches that have talent but don't want the big show. He'd coach circles around many college coaches.
And ftr, says DT is a perfect fit as he ran a similar system in hs.

This is concerning. I can think of several reason to leave Blackman for UT. Not to many reason to stay. Weird situation IMO.

That is because you have no actual knowledge of the situation. Their are family situations that came into play. Plus, the offer was the player development position which would have probably been a very minimal raise. There were some other completely logical reasons for why it was best for him to stay in his current job. And none of those reasons were due to a view that the job at UT was not a good job. People trying to make a mountain out of this mole hill are ridiculous.

It does seem a little weird on the surface, but we don't the man's heart or goals or intentions or libido

It's logical for a person to want to stay close to family. I don't fault a person for that. He's in a good position as a HS coach.

He was a candidate. He was never offered a job.

That would be my guess as well. A few Tennessee FANS made him a candidate, and CDT filled the spot with an assistant known for Memphis area recruiting and coaching in the SEC. Nothing to see or worry about here IMO.

The only other guy was Pierre, and Hart put the kabosh to that one. Wortman may have been talked to about taking a video ops type position and not an assistant spot, and that may not have really interested him. Or it may have not even have gotten that far and he simply is happy where he is, nothing wrong with that.

All this can be applied to Cuonzo, correct? We've had threads on threads badmouthing the man for being a ***** and not being able to handle the big-time, but now it's that there is no knowledge of the situation?
