Maybe beast is insinuating that he may recruit a few, but in order to remain members of the team, they had better act right off the court.

And that's fine, but in past Tennessee experience it appears that tiger rarely changed his stripes. You think of the guys Pearl took chances on and most had a run in at some point.

Oh I agree, and I actually side with you on this. I was just trying to see from his side and determine what he may have been thinking.

Tyndall clearly stated that thugs and renegades will not be a part of his program (paraphrasing). He was either being disingenuous, or careful with exactly how he worded that phrase.

It's all coach speak. I don't know why people are so intent on dissecting his words. If a kid is worth the risk in the coach's mind, an exception will be made. Just like any other coach would do.

These coaches are all the same. Even Cuonzo did the dirt when it came down to it. Some believe he encouraged Washpun to leave. He obviously booted the Landry kid because he couldn't play. And then he "recruited a committed player" which he said he wouldn't do.

Tyndall knows how long SEC coaches have to win these days. Perhaps he doesn't feel comfortable committing a third of his roster for the next 3-4 years to players he didn't recruit.

I'm not sure what you expected him to say, that he didn't try and could care less where those guys go?

It's coach speak, the same things as saying he wouldn't recruit thugs or renegades, but watch the names getting ready to pop up on the radar.

Or the same way that he insinuated he wouldn't take any players from USM and would encourage all to stay committed.

There's nothing necessarily wrong with that, sometimes to win and win quickly you have to do some things you aren't proud of, but point is I wouldn't trust every word coming out of his mouth ATM.

Naturally, I think we all understand "coach speak". TIFWIW, as always.

Right.

This is JMO, and not necessarily anything terribly wrong with this, but I've got a feeling he's a lot like Pearl in that regard. Don't trust a word the man says, because it's likely the complete opposite of what he says that's the truth.

He mentioned not having thugs and renegades, well I'm betting we're gonna see a few that would fall under that category pop up here soon. He said that he desperately wanted and needed all 4 signees, from my point of view that's not what played out. He made it sound both in his press conference and radio interviews he would do whatever he could to get the USM players into USM, and wouldn't try to bring any to Tennessee, that doesn't appear as truth to me so far.

As I've said, that's all fine, as long as you win. He has done so at every stop, so until he gives me a reason I won't doubt he will either, but JMO.

I listened to the interview and u can take what he said any way u wanted... I took it to mean he wasn't going to have a thug team but he may take some guys that aren't saints but they have to follow the rules too....he even said that he wasn't a saint either.

He said he wouldn't have thugs ON the team, not that he wouldn't have a thug team. You're correct on the "saint" part, but I took that to mean, yea you'll have guys have an issue but nothing major. Like a Bray getting a jet ski ticket, that doesn't mean he's a thug, but sure he's not a saint.

However I would consider taking a guy who's been charged with kidnapping, or had multiple violent arrests as someone that would fall under the thug category.

I think successful men's basketball coaches are, to varying extents, dirtbags, compared to what other people view as acceptable behavior. It's the nature of their business.

Look at the violations that occurred at Morehead St. It's pleasing to hear Tyndall say it was isolated to one booster and was a mistake he learned from. But, what advantages did his program gain from that? Perhaps he won there by cheating at the expense of other OVC coaches, who are either still in the OVC or have been fired for not winning enough.

On the other side, consider our message to Tyndall: 'Welcome to Tennessee. Your job here is to start winning immediately. If the program is not contending for championships consistently by the third year, you'll be reevaluated. And, here are the players and recruits the previous coach has left behind for you. Good luck. Oh, and be sure to follow all NCAA rules and graduate everyone along the way, even if your competitors don't always do that.'

Just saw Punter was at State Fair CC in Florida, that's ringing a bell for some reason with Tyndall and I can't recall why. I'm thinking he's either got a former staff member there, or landed players from there, but I'm pretty positive it's a pipeline for him lol.

So yea, I would expect us to get punter.

"Davis is physical point guard with a Chauncey Billups type of frame. Due to his strength and solid handle, he can carry defenders on his hip and make plays with his head up. He is best in the open court where he separate from pressure and deliver the nifty ..."

Can he guard the PG spot in a press?

Why'd you leave off the 2* part :)
