Michael White (La Tech)

No doubt in my mind he's the best recruiter in the country given the current state of the program and the talent he has hauled in.

Which of Fulmer or Dooley's teams were worse from a talent standpoint??? And exactly what do you think Butch should have done better, to receive a higher grade from you?

Beating UGA's JV and Vanderbilt at home would've been nice. Also, not crapping the bed against a 4-8 team that lost at home to Georgia Southern.

All you can do is grade the hire as it stands today. IMO Jones has been a solid 8.5-9 out of 10. Recruiting coming off the Dools era, he is an 11.

Butch says all the right things and is recruiting like an animal...but the in game coaching, prep and his coaching staff all are big question marks right now. He has a couple more years to prove his worth.

First off we did beat UGA (bs call at the end) second we couldn't beat Vandy because of incompetent QB play

QB play aside, UT still beats Vandy if Jancek doesn't go into Chavis mode on the last drive...and in the UGA game Pig clearly fumbled before the ball broke the plane. I have no idea why anyone still attempts to argue otherwise. Replay confirmed the fumble easily.

I'll agree half on the Vandy call but that 4th down conversion was total BS they didn't make it and I will always believe Pig made that touchdown. Either way we still took it to UGA that day.

The Vandy player clearly did make that first down, unless you think he was holding the ball with his feet.

I wish we could get one of our own so VolNation wouldn't have to worry about him looking around at open vacancies. Allan Houston would be a headliner on ESPN if that happened. I see a perfect example of the situation at Iowa State with there very own Fred Hoiberg.

Is Hart asking him to literally be a Volunteer? Like, 'please coach for free?'

He needs to do a better job of not letting information surrounding his searches go public. He honestly hurts our brand even more when this crap happens.

For the record on Butch - his coaching career here has gone exactly as one could have expected it to looking at his past stops. They sort of suck the first year, he brings in a massive recruiting haul, and they turn it around in the second year - if not significantly, at least noticeably. I don't expect we'll rack up 10 wins in 2014 like he did his second year at Cincy, but we also didn't go 4-8 like he did his first year at Cincy either. I'm expecting a solid 7-8 wins this year, and unlike last year, I think he can do it as long as the defensive is serviceable. Last year's problem was that the defense would start games really strong, but as the offense kept going 3-and-out they would get tired and we didn't have the depth to replace them. If the offense can stay on the field a few more series there's no question we get Vandy and UGA and then everyone loves Butch. But he didn't have much to work with last year, if we're being honest, outside of North, Raijon, and Palardy.

Is this now a football thread? I came in here on lunch break to get vibe and it's a Vandy and Butch Jones thread?

I find it amazing that really no one from here ever seems to coach above the high school level.

Aaron Green is excellent at that level, but at this point, it doesn't look like he's going to move up to a college.

He was responsible for multiple top 25 classes while at Ole Miss, and this next class he has coming into LT is said to be the best they've ever had.

I keep seeing allusions to this in threads, and it just isn't true.

First of all, he was only an assistant at Ole Miss; and second, they didn't land a single class in the Top 25 while he was there...

It's bio fluff, almost assuredly overblown but he is known as a good recruiter.

"We have had multiple sources telling us today that it's not going to happen. I think Tennessee likely tried to get something done with him this morning and couldn't reach a deal. We are chasing anything and everything in regards to Donnie Tyndall at Southern Miss to see if that's the next possibility or if there is someone else."

Hubbs a few minutes ago.

Can't really disagree with much, but we didn't play UGA's JV team. We MADE them a JV team. They had plenty of horses to start that game, and they limped out with a narrow victory.
